Today we’d like to introduce you to Grizzy Wynter.
Grizzy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a Jamaican Canadian hip hop and rap artist, actor, and podcaster Co-founder of For The People 778 clothing, I became a leader for independent artists in the Northwest. When I first came on the scene under the name Grizzy Grizz, releasing singles and remixes on SoundCloud in 2012, reviving thousands of streams and plays, then when on to make his first album Infinity Gauntlet and release it in 2015, and then-No Rest For The Wicked in 2016 with the lead single Demons gaining 10k views on YouTube and being put on Vevo, the dark trap style and powerful lyrics and caught the attention of many and he began to start working on his most successful album to date Illuminate.
For the next 3 years I stayed busy as a musical artist dropping single after single like LOCO Remix ft Monsta Mack, Speed Racer, Don’t Let Go, Dope ft Sadè Ariel and Kill The Pills, and many more in preparation for Illuminate. Paperchase ft RCN Koco as the first single for Illuminate and then followed it up with Weird Flex ft CXCX Chu Chu which was released in 2020 with his next 3 singles and videos LOCO and Reset ft Buni Kor, P.F.M.E (Prayers for my Enemies) 2021 changed a lot for me ,blowing up the charts hitting 100k for his latest album Illuminate in streams,I have been a constant in the northwest hip-hop scene not only by dropping music constantly he also is a leader in the community by bringing artists together and setting up events to showcase the diversely talented black and minority artists that exist within his city and giving back with his For The People 778 clothing line a non profit that I started with one of my best friends Bandiida’s ink. After winning Best International Artist at the 1st annual Binge TV Awards and being nominated for Record of the Year at the 2021 wavy awards created by Divinity Roxx.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been struggles I have had to overcome situations where speaking honestly has cost me opportunities and events that I should have been considered for, but the community has always shown me respect and support because of my honesty and I would not want to compromise my integrity.
As a black artist especially it’s been difficult because I find that there’s an idea that you have to fit into a mold here, that you have to fit a certain style or aesthetic to be given bigger opportunities as well that I don’t believe in, I have made it a mission to tell my story and stories of others like me so that this pattern of thinking doesn’t continue.
Also the whole I love this city I have found as well as many other people who have grown here that the support and solidarity that once existed here has all but vanished but I strive to keep building and pushing forward to build something great for the artists for the city and create a community and legacy that the people and artists of this city can be proud of
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

WAV, we’ve mixed UK drill music, dancehall music, and EDM with some R&B elements to create something wholly unique and different than anything people have heard before, and can’t wait to release the music once I’m ready in the next couple of months.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was I would like to say introverted, there was a lot of upheaval in my home when I was young my parents divorced as a 6 and I was looking for outlets, I took to art and drawing first creating characters and storylines from a young age While my mother would play reggae on Sundays and Micheal Jackson and Tina tuner, I didn’t take to music until was in high school.
Once I started to learn to be my complete self and not try to follow anyone’s lead I realized that was more of an extrovert and with that, I started to use my “superpowers” of fearlessness, charm, and wordplay into forming the kind of person I wanted to become.
