Today we’d like to introduce you to Guinevere Simpson.
Hi Guinevere, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I grew up learning to sew and create with my hands. I started my first business when I was 17. Shortly thereafter, I took my first solo vacation and everything changed. Traveling really impacted my life.
During fashion school, I traveled and explored exotic destinations and always had a desire and longing to bring everything with me. So, I got to work, I made bags, holsters, utility belts, and other purpose-driven items. I then sold them at local craft fairs, events, and festivals.
When I pick up riding motorcycles from my friend Dave, I was hooked a fell in love with life on two wheels. I wanted to bring my craft to the motorcycle world so I registered for upholstery classes and soon began working in a motorcycle shop here in Salt Lake City.
I made many custom motorcycle seats alongside another upholsterer. I decided to plant roots, buy a home and work to build a New Shop while I work out of my basement studio here in downtown salt lake. I can’t wait for the New shop to be done, I’ll have so much more room for projects and even CAR projects.
Sewing for a living has always been my dream and I work hard to keep that dream alive every day! I’m so happy and proud of myself for pushing through the struggles and hardships. It’s been an educational and humbling experience, to say the least with being a business owner. With each new challenge I’m learning I can adapt and come up with solutions.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Learning how to do every part of the business, from website design, making videos, content showing my work. Still learning how to manage things but I’m getting better.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in motorcycle seat upholstery and travel bags. I love creating custom seat covers that stand out from the typical designs you see on the market. I have a beautiful collection of alternatives to your typical purse.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I listen to a variety of podcasts while I work, Mostly true crime podcasts.
