Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Gren.
Heather, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had an interest in skin and taking pride in mine. From a little girl always watched my mother put on her Avon night cream. After many years of changing careers, I decided to come back to my hometown. I knew I wanted to go to school but I was not sure.
I enrolled in a medical coding program and was about to start when I decided esthetics was what I have always been passionate about.
My mother was in an accident which left her looking disfigured and different, it ruined her self-esteem so much so that she developed social anxiety and would never leave the house due to the way people would stare. I wanted to have the tools and education to make her feel pretty again and gain the confidence to enjoy life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I started my journey just in the basic program of esthetics. That was tough after years away from school. I struggled with the abrupt change but thankfully with great educators, I was able to make it through.
During the process, I learned how many different services and treatments were in this industry as well as the master scope of practice. So once I finished with the fundamentals, I enrolled in the master’s part-time to soak as much of it up as I could
Thanks – So what else should our readers know about Skin Foundations?
I started this business from home shortly after I was licensed as a basic esthetician whilst I was enrolled as a master’s. I do everything I possibly can in this industry and am ever-evolving with the new services, treatments, and techniques that come about.
I also hold an educator’s license and taught esthetics from the fundamentals to the masters, including laser, and chemical peels, as well as hands-on for state prep examinations. I originally started with eyelash extensions and loved the challenge. I love helping others overcome their challenges with them.
Then as I was teaching, I was also learning more about advanced esthetics which I believe helped me to be a better educator and hope the up-and-coming estheticians. I believe what sets me apart from others is the ability to teach and give back. The most rewarding part of my career is being able to help others be the best they can be.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I built this business from the ground up by myself.
