Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Heinel.
Hi Heather, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began as a volunteer with the Humane Society in San Diego, where I developed my desire and skills working with dogs from a variety of backgrounds and communicating with potential owners on behaviors they might experience from their dogs. Through this work, I found my pup Hudson, an American Bulldog English Pointer mix who suffered from under-socialization and fear aggression. Striving to provide him the best home possible, I became a Certified Canine Trainer through the Animal Behavior College. This gave me new skills and positive reinforcement techniques to apply in my interactions with dogs. Relocating to Kamas, Utah, I worked as a manager for Thorn Creek Kennels as I developed my dog training business, Triple R Training. The birth of my first child prompted me to end my management career and focus solely on my training business, resulting in a doubling of my profit earnings year over year. During this time, my business expanded from private training to include behavior management and identification classes and workshops for several veterinary, boarding, daycare and rescue facilities throughout the state of Utah. When the owner of Thorn Creek Kennel decided to sell his property and business, I felt this would be the perfect opportunity to expand my business portfolio in a way that would benefit both businesses as well as my community. Bringing in Courtnee Carn as a manager and partner was essential to the execution of this plan, as she provides the support needed for our facility, Park City Dog Center, which allows me the opportunity to continue training and building clientele throughout the Park City area. Our facility has been well received by locals throughout the Summit County area, and we take great pride in supporting local non-profits throughout the Park City and Kamas area.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a woman in business always comes with its own challenges, but overall, we’ve had so much support to make this dream come true from our families to those in the community. It’s been a team effort!
We’ve been impressed with Park City Dog Center, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Park City Dog Center is a mountainside retreat for dogs! We offer day, overnight and training retreats for our canine guests to rejuvenate & realign their bodies, minds and spirits. Our center offers customized outdoor playgroups for our social guests based on age/size/play style/temperament, which help to alleviate the mental stress typically found in boarding dogs. This means when you take a vacation, your pup does too! Our K9 Concierges also offer individual playtime, off-leash hikes, spaw services and private transportation to and from our center. As moms ourselves, to both two & four legged babies, we strive to provide an environment that both stimulates the mind and supports the physical needs of each individual dog that stays with us, whether that’s for a day of play or for several weeks of vacation. Our goal is to intimately know each guest in our care, so that we can provide them with their ideal home away from home. Reservations can be made right from our website www.parkcitydogcenter.com and every new dog gets a complimentary day of play prior to any reservation to ensure your pup has the best experience possible.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a child, I was always determined (some might say stubborn), performed well in school and excelled in sports. I loved animals, particularly horses and dogs. My first job was at a dog boarding and daycare facility at 16 and I’ve always either had dogs or worked with them… or both!
