Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Hills.
Hi Heidi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in a farm and was homeschooled. My job was to manage the farm accounts and help round up horses, cows, goats, etc for any vet or farrier appointments. I continued to work with horses and dogs all through college with any spare time I had. My dogs and I met a lot of people over the years taking classes to grow ourselves and ended up landing us commercials and event gigs.
I ended up working for a trainer Dyas K9 which really lead me to grow my own confidence to open my own dog training business. I stay in connection with many trainers to all help each other and help each pack and family grow!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some struggles with training is that people don’t always see that they need to put in the work and just the dog needs to be trained. I always push my dog handlers to also learn and grow by one on one sessions versus only board and train.
As you know, we’re big fans of West Hills K9. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At West Hills K9 we strive to grow people and their packs! We specialize in obedience, scent work, and desensitization to farm life.
I’m known for helping build well-rounded dogs that have a job.
What sets us apart from others is that we teach each dog is different and teaching the handler the dog’s strengths and weaknesses to modify a training plan to tap into the dog’s natural potential. Let the dog teach you what they are good at.
I’m proud of my personal Pack that has helped me grow and help me teach other dogs.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see us growing into a training and rehab center for canines. I have always needed physical therapy done on myself and my dogs for top performance and overall wellness. I hope to accumulate some courses to provide some skilled treatments.
