Meet Jake Andersen of The Weekend Dentist

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Andersen.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a dentist. I graduated dental school in 2017 and have practiced in a variety of settings, searching for what brought me the most work satisfaction. After trying out several different clinics, including community health centers, corporate offices, and more, I realized that I enjoy emergency dentistry the most. Getting rid of toothaches is where I find my passion in the world of dentistry. I built The Weekend Dentist in South Ogden to focus on doing just that. We are open evenings and weekends and focus our work on patients who have dental emergencies.

I’ve done a lot of marketing through google ads, tried out billboards, facebook advertising, and more. I know there’s a lot of people that have tooth problems at the most inconvenient time. I want them to know we are here and open and ready to help.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Making ourselves known has been one of the biggest challenges. Nobody expects there to be a dental office open on the weekends, so we’ve gone pretty heavy on the marketing to let poeple know we are here and ready to help.

Staffing can be challenging as well as it’s a bit difficult to find people willing to work evenings and weekends, but we have a really great staff right now, who are very caring and good to our patients.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Weekend Dentist. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
As previously mentioned, we are known for our emergency work on the weekends. We are available when other dentists are not. We are focused on resolving dental pain and have the tools and experience necessary to resolve your dental problems FAST! I’m proud of the fact that I care more about patient well-being than money. I don’t pressure my patients into getting their whole mouth fixed up. I am there to focus on whatever they want to focus on. If that’s one tooth, great! If it’s multiple teeth, great! I want to support my patients in their priorities.

I enjoy giving my patients a variety options, telling them what I’d do if it were me or my family member, and then shutting up and letting them decide what they want to do.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I view risk as “making a bet on yourself.” I strongly believe that you only progress in life when you do things you are not comfortable with. You have to try new things if you want things to change. Sometimes you get burned and that’s ok. I spent a lot of money trying to start up a second practice in West Valley, but my attention was too divided so I abandoned that project and ate the cost. I don’t regret the decision because it helped me realize the direction I want to go in the future, which is to expand operations and hours at the South Ogden location. Every decision you make is a learning opportunity and the more you risk, the more you’re going to learn.
