Meet Jenna Simpkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Simpkins.

Jenna Simpkins

Hi Jenna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started skating on Easter of 2020, right before the initial peak of the COVID pandemic. It was a hobby I picked up to pass the time while in isolation, so I didn’t go stir-crazy at home all day.

I needed something fun to do to make the days go by faster and I made an Instagram account to document my progress. I had no idea my silly little hobby would grow into what it is today, but I’m super thankful for what it has brought me.

I am a hobbyist roller skater. Some say skating micro-influencer, but truly at the end of the day, I’m just someone pursuing their hobbies.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Heck no. Sometime in the summer of 2020, I broke my leg which was a huge setback. I broke my tibia and fibula, and a spiral fracture down to my ankle.

I had to relearn how to stand, walk, and skate again all on my own. I still have fears about hurting myself again which has set me back in many areas of my life, but every day I’m trying to overcome it.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
One of my favorite childhood memories was when I got my first dog, Lulu. I had wanted a dog for as long as I could remember, but I needed to convince my parents. I did a lot of research, read about every dog breed, made PowerPoint presentations proving why I needed a dog, and everything to convince them.

Then on Christmas when I was about 10 years old, I remember going to pick up my Lulu and it was one of the happiest memories. There’s a picture of me holding Lulu for the first time with tears of joy, and I’m so happy to have that memory.
