Meet Junior Cruz of Utah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Junior Cruz.

Hi Junior, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I didn’t take music seriously till i was about 15-16 years old but have been writing since i was like 9 or at least attempted, i knew it was something i was good at the more that i did it so i pursued it and gave it my all, countless nights and days in the studio, closet studio, bathroom studio, kitchen studio, i’ve been everywhere. I’ve always been so happy when i made it, it was a way for me to express emotions that i couldn’t or didn’t know how to. The reason i am where im at today is because of my beautiful wife and my amazing mom, they are the reason i was able to do shows, able to keep the motivation towards the music. Just like every artist, i had my doubts and still do but they continue to push me to do the best i can, either way music never runs away from me, its like a magnet to me and it will always be my peace.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh god, never, i don’t think anyone has a “smooth” road to where they are at now, there will always be obstacles, I’ve went broke for music, lost so many people cause i chose to pursue music, arguments lead to problems and problems lead to me stopping for a minute but again, music is a magnet to me, i could never stop. I’ve just lost a lot throughout the way, myself was what i lost the most.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an artist/rapper, i make art, im known for rapping pretty fast but also known for how versatile i am in music. I don’t do just stick to one genre and i try to be as real as i can be, i never was a violent person or one to be around it, ive dealt with what most call “teenage issues” i’ve been through a lot and seen a lot so i express that in songs that can give others a perspective of my life. Im proud of how much i’ve grown as a person/human being and also as an artist, im happy that i slowed down and stopped rushing things, life moves fast and me moving fast with it won’t give me the time i need to learn more of what i love doing. Im just real, i try to be transparent w my audience and don’t need to make a fake story of things that aren’t true.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Trust what you feel and know when you overthink a project. Not everything is gonna be perfect but it can be just as good. Advice is key and without learning to be patient with it, you won’t know what it is to be an artist. ALWAYS have a good group with you, trusted and people that aren’t afraid to hurt your feelings. I wish i had people who were just as dedicated as i was when i started, i wish i took action when i didn’t think things would work out. Never overthink what you know best.
