Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Li.
Hi Justin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I worked in law enforcement in San Diego County. I came up with the idea that would become the first product for Qore Performance (TCCC Base Layers) while searching for an armed suspect in Pine Valley, CA. That was July 2011. My business partner, J.D. Willcox, and I teamed up to start Qore Performance and launch it on Kickstarter in December 2015.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Hardly. We have had all the usual struggles: lack of funding, not really knowing how to get started, consultants of all types taking advantage of us, and understanding the importance of social media without understanding how to use it. If there is one lesson we learned in starting our business that we could pass on to future entrepreneurs it is this: NEVER hire consultants. Do it yourself. This is the only way. The only thing consultants will do is consume resources (time and money).

We design and build novel hydration and thermoregulation technologies that weaponize temperature to increase work capacity, improve performance, and offer a decisive advantage to anyone working in challenging environments.
One of the greatest strengths of humanity is the ability to create tools to realize our grandest dreams and audacious visions. We build these tools to empower people to realize their full potential in everything they do: Military, Law Enforcement, Occupational Safety, Outdoor, Devices, and Aviation.
The aspect of our brand of which we are most proud is how we have been able to diversify the reach of the brand and prevent it from being pigeonholed as “just military” or “just safety” etc. Further, we have been able to do this while protecting and preserving our brand. We build tools for American Security and American Prosperity.
What matters most to you?
Creating tools that add real value to the lives of real people. So much of our world today is artificial nonsense, make-believe, fiction. Our products create real advantages for people that can be quantified: 4.5M+ hours worked since 2017 without a single minute lost to a heat injury. That is a number and a result that matters because it represents real lives saved from heat stroke. We love that.
