Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Silvey.
Hi Kate, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The Nordic Yurt started as The Creekside Yurt 10 years ago, in Wasatch Mountain State Park. A small husband and wife business run completely by the two of us. We hosted small groups for snowshoe dinners, and small private events. We did everything from cleaning dishes, to guiding the groups, serving all the food, and hiked everything we needed for the evening in ourselves. Our small operation began to gain interest and traction, and over the year we saw our 18′ yurt expand into a 30′ yurt, from being able to host 15 guests to now 50 guests. We have move to the Soldier Hollow Trails, an Olympic Venue, and run a full time operation December – April. We are proud of what we have built together, and what we can provide to the local community and its visitors!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a small business from the ground up comes with tons of hurdles, and high and lows. We have literally poured our blood, sweat, and tears into this business, but most importantly we have also poured our hearts into it as well. So, at times It can feel emotional, defeating, and exhausting, but with that said we are passionate about the experience we are offering and we are so rewarded by the happy guests that leave our yurt after a wonderful evening.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

What’s next?
We look forward to becoming more recognizable to the Wasatch Back, and continue to provide an unforgettable experience to the Valley. We hope to be a big part of the Winter 2034 Olympics, and support the community in private dining experiences such as weddings, family reunions, birthdays, and corporate events.
