Hi Kevin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a professional firearms instructor. I live in Illinois, and my company is Pew Pew Guru.
I started my company to train women and new shooters.
I am a Utah Licensed Instructor by the Utah BCI. I flew to the beautiful state of Utah in the height of COVID in 2020 to take the course for licensing.
I learned a lesson that week. My wife’s birthday was August 20th, and the class was that same day. My plan was to fly into Utah, take the class and fly home, then take my wife out to celebrate her birthday.
The reality and lesson was when a woman says fine, that’s not at all what she means.
I got back and my wife had the door to the house from the garage locked and instructed me that I was officially in quarantine because Utah was a hotspot at the time.
So we didn’t go to dinner or celebrate her birthday. I had to go into the basement. There is a bathroom and shower, she stocked the bar and fridge and I had my man cave and projector screen. She would leave meals on the steps.
She really made me live in the basement for 14 days!
I said, “But you said I could go… but did I?!”
I only said fine…. “When you told me you were going -and asked if it was ok? My only response was fine.”
I had a great time and had some amazing meals in Salt City, UT. It was almost worth the quarantine! Almost!
I teach the Utah Concealed Firearm Permit. Class in Illinois quarterly in Villa Park, Illinois and each class brings back those fond memories of quarantine and my short trip to Utah.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I struggle with messaging and communicating why Illinois residents would want the Utah Concealed Carry Permit.
Utah is one of the most sought-after out-of-state Concealed Carry Licenses available. As an Illinois CCL holder, it gives you additional states you can carry in and expands the reciprocity map.
I advertise on Google and Facebook. I email market to my customers.
But it’s still hard to communicate the messaging why this is so important!
