Today we’d like to introduce you to Lance Lavizzo.
Hi Lance, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a hip-hop artist since ’99, I was 14 years old on my first major release called, “The Lakealation” published under Sick Lake Records.
I graduated from West High School class of ’04 where I performed pep rallies, talent shows, battle of the bands, etc. I started the Hard-N-paint Basketball tournament in 2012 for the youth and adult basketball community to bring many walks of life together through the arts of basketball, hip-hop fashion, lowriders, and motorcycle. I started my fashion clothing line in 2019 called, Hard-N-paint Clothing Sports and Street Fashion.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Well, my dad was signed to Motown records in 1979, I was born in 1986, he was a great talent for Motown and was unfortunately sent to prison in 1889 to do ten years in prison. We moved to Utah in 1996 and I started my career and new life in Rose Park. Not too much difference between California where I had moved from with my little sister and older brother.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a unique blend of hip-hop basketball and community support. We thrive on staying out of the box with our marketing and outreach.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid was a very weird space for us at a basketball tournament. We managed to do the facemask with Hard-N-paint branding that helped keep the name and numbers going. The lesson of the pandemic was nothing is promised and love what you do.
