Meet Laurel Herbert of The Bride Room, Desert Rose Bride, Alteration Artistry and Love and Curves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurel Herbert.

Hi Laurel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
was raised in a small, tightly woven polygamist community, where life was simple, structured, and steeped in tradition. In our world, education wasn’t about textbooks or degrees — it was about mastering the arts necessary to become a good wife and mother. From a young age, I was taught how to cook, clean, serve, and sew — skills that were considered not only practical but sacred.

While some of those lessons felt confining, one of them planted the seed of a dream I couldn’t ignore: sewing. From the first time I threaded a needle, I fell in love. Creating beauty from nothing but the fabric from old clothing. imagination became my quiet rebellion and my greatest joy. Sewing wasn’t just a skill — it was a way for me to express myself in a world where voices like mine were often expected to stay small.

As I grew, so did my passion for fashion. I became especially drawn to bridal gowns — those symbols of new beginnings, hope, and celebration. While many around me prepared for arranged futures, I started to envision a different path, one where I could use my hands, my heart, and my creativity to craft something extraordinary.

Leaving behind the only life I had ever known wasn’t easy. But armed with the simple skills that had once been meant to limit me, I began to build something that would set me free. Today, that dream has blossomed into something far bigger than I could have ever imagined.

I am the proud founder of several bridal businesses that embody everything I once longed for: freedom, beauty, and celebration. I opened The Bride Room as a space where every bride, regardless of background, could find a gown that made her feel radiant, celebrated, and seen. From there, I expanded to Desert Rose Bride, a Southern Utah boutique that feels like a love letter to the adventurous, free-spirited bride. To complement these, I launched Alteration Artistry, a studio dedicated to making sure every gown fits perfectly and every detail is flawless. Soon, I will be opening Love and Curves, a boutique exclusively for plus-size brides — a long-overdue space where beauty knows no size limits and every woman can celebrate her curves with confidence and joy.

And the dream continues to evolve. I am currently in the process of launching my own bridal gown line, Love Laurel — a collection designed by me, inspired by my journey, my love for timeless elegance, and my belief that every bride deserves a gown that tells her story.

Beyond the gowns, boutiques, and beautiful moments, my greatest dream is to inspire and empower the next generation of women. I want them to know that where you come from does not define where you can go. Skills once meant to keep me small became the very tools that helped me dream bigger, work harder, and create a life of purpose, beauty, and freedom. If my story can light the path for even one woman to find her voice, her strength, and her dreams — then every stitch, every risk, and every step has been worth it.

Sewing and bridal fashion are not just part of my past — they are my future. They are the bridge between where I came from and where I am going: a life stitched together with passion, courage, and a deep belief that dreams are meant to be worn proudly.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey hasn’t been easy. I left a world where questioning was discouraged, stepping into one where success demanded boldness, education, and a voice I wasn’t taught to use. At times, I felt like an outsider — building businesses, navigating finances, hiring teams — all without the background most entrepreneurs take for granted. There were days when I questioned everything: whether I was capable, whether I belonged, whether my dreams were too big for someone like me. I faced judgment, loneliness, financial strain, and the quiet but constant pull of old fears telling me to stay small. But every time I thought about giving up, I thought about the girl I used to be — the one who loved sewing because it made her feel alive. And I fought for her. Every struggle, every setback, every hard day was a stitch in the life I refused to stop creating.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I own and operate a family of bridal businesses built around one simple but powerful mission: to create unforgettable bridal experiences for every woman. Our brands — The Bride Room, Desert Rose Bride, Alteration Artistry, and soon-to-open Love and Curves — each exist to celebrate love, individuality, and beauty in all its forms.

We specialize in offering thoughtfully curated bridal gowns, expert alterations, and a boutique experience that feels personal, joyful, and empowering. We are known for our warm, supportive stylists, our attention to detail, and our unwavering commitment to making every bride feel seen, celebrated, and beautiful.

What sets us apart is the heart behind everything we do. We invest in every detail — from our boutiques’ welcoming atmosphere to the designers we carry, to the care we put into alterations. We don’t believe in rushing brides through a sale. We believe in slowing down, listening deeply, and creating moments that become core memories for our clients. Our team is passionate, highly trained, and truly loves what they do — and it shows.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the culture we’ve created — a space where kindness, professionalism, and true celebration live at the center. I’m proud that we celebrate women of all sizes, styles, and stories, and that soon, with the launch of Love and Curves, we’ll offer a dedicated space exclusively for plus-size brides to find their dream dress without compromise. I’m also proud to be launching my own modest bridal gown line, Love Laurel, inspired by the belief that love, style, and individuality belong together.

Ultimately, I want readers to know this: our boutiques aren’t just about selling dresses. We are about creating once-in-a-lifetime experiences. We are about celebrating love, individuality, confidence, and joy. When a bride walks through our doors, she becomes part of our story — and we’re honored to be part of hers.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m a firm believer in continuous learning and surrounding myself with inspiration. A few books that have had a huge impact on my mindset and business are The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles, which taught me how to think abundantly and take action boldly, and Dare to Lead by Brené Brown, which helped shape the heart-centered leadership style I strive to bring into my businesses every day.

Podcasts like The Ed Mylett Show and How I Built This have also been really motivating, offering incredible real-world insights into perseverance, entrepreneurship, and dreaming bigger than your circumstances.

I also love surrounding myself with creative energy — following inspiring bridal designers, women entrepreneurs, and thought leaders online keeps my passion alive and reminds me that growth, beauty, and impact are always possible when you lead with love and vision.
