Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Casper.
Hi Logan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a fan of live music. I used to attend concerts constantly. I volunteered at another local venue called the Rad Shack where I decided it’d be a fun challenge to start my own.
After entering the UVU audio program (from which I graduated this fall) I got together with a fellow audio student Braxton Bitsoi and created The Boardwalk which was meant to be both a venue and recording studio. We opened our doors in March of 2020 and were closed most of that year being shut down by Covid and barely surviving off space rental and a few recording sessions.
In 2021, we finally hit our stride and began having regular shows and recording sessions. We’ve grown immensely since then and we’re almost constantly booked 2 months in advance. We’ve now hosted 300+ live bands and done 40-50 recordings/mixes.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Facing Covid right when we started up was an incredible and unexpected struggle. In the entire year of 2020, we were only able to have 6-7 shows. Having to impose endless Covid restrictions wasn’t easy for a live space either.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Boardwalk. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our space was created to help grow the local music scene in Utah Valley. We do that by hosting fun live shows and by recording/mixing/mastering local and touring musicians. Although we’re a garage venue, bands love playing here because of our accommodating staff, retro atmosphere, and easy booking. Our studio is both efficient and professional and significantly less expensive than most surrounding studios.
What makes you happy?
Making a creative idea come to life. It literally helps a part of that person’s soul to express and sing into life.
