Today we’d like to introduce you to Madelyn Clark.
Hi Madelyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi! I’m Madelyn Clark, a wedding and event florist, planner, and designer based in Idaho. My work has taken me all over the West, designing weddings and events throughout Idaho, Washington, Utah, Montana and Wyoming.
Outside of my business, I’m a wife and a mom to two beautiful daughters. My husband, Tyler, and I have been married since 2023, and my family is my greatest motivation in everything I do. They inspire me and push me to be my best!
Growing up, I was always drawn to creativity. Whether it was flowers, gardening, drawing, plants, or designing beautiful spaces, I loved creating. At the time, though, I never imagined there could be a successful career built around those passions.
After graduating from high school, I attended BYU–Idaho in 2018 with plans to pursue a degree in speech-language pathology or counseling. After my first year, I began questioning whether that was the right path for me.
My mom encouraged me to take a semester of horticulture classes because that field had always interested me and to find some classes that I was passionate about. At first, I hesitated. I wanted to choose a career that felt practical—one where I knew I could find a stable job and be successful. But she encouraged me to consider floral and landscape design, believing it aligned with who I had always been.
During that next semester’s off-track, I took a job at a wedding venue thanks to a friend in Washington. I coordinated weddings, landscaped the property, maintained the gardens, and helped with event setup. I quickly realized I had found something I genuinely loved.
When I returned to BYU–Idaho, I officially changed my major to Horticulture (Plant Science) with an emphasis in Floral Design. I fell in love with everything from soil science and gardening to floral artistry, event planning, and design.
On another off-track, I returned to work at the same wedding venue, where I expanded into floral design in addition to coordinating events. That year, I took one of the biggest risks of my life: I purchased an existing wedding rental company, added floral design services, invested every dollar I had, and took out a small business loan. I was still attending college while building my business from the ground up.
When COVID-19 changed the wedding industry in 2020, I adapted by focusing on intimate weddings, planning, and elopements. I ran all over Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming doing as many photos shoots and elopements as I could! This helped me to get involved and to network with other vendors. That same year, I celebrated my first published wedding feature with Rocky Mountain Bride. Seeing my work printed in magazines, online, and then later displayed in bridal boutiques in Boise, Idaho and Idaho Falls, Idaho was an unforgettable milestone for me.
In July of 2021, I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Horticulture with an emphasis in Floral Design. By then, my business had grown significantly and I was designing weddings for couples in multiple states, while building lasting relationships with incredible vendors throughout the region.
That August, I accepted a position as an adjunct instructor at BYU–Idaho. Teaching floral design, cultural design influence, and wedding and event planning was an incredible opportunity. Sharing my passion with students became one of the most rewarding experiences and I learned so much. I hope to one day pursue a field in teaching again once my babies are grown!
In 2022, I made the decision to pursue my business full-time. It has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of designing weddings for amazing couples from across the United States and around the world. My work has been featured in five magazines, bridal shops, and numerous wedding publications and online. Those opportunities have given me even more opportunities and helped introduce me to amazing couples, talented vendors, lifelong friendships, and pushed my work out to a larger audience.
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been watching my business grow. In the span of less than 5 years I went from designing weddings with budgets of just a few hundred dollars to creating weddings with five-figure floral and design investments. This September 2026, I’ll be designing the largest wedding of my career—a milestone that reminds me just how far this journey has taken me. My friends and family have honestly gotten me to this point. I could’ve never done it without their help!
Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for the family who believed in me before I fully believed in myself. They encouraged me to chase my dreams, work hard, and never settle for what felt safe when something greater was possible.
I’m still a long way from where I want to be, and I know I have so much left to learn. I only work on my business part-time, but I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come. Every challenge, lesson, and small win has helped shape the business I’m building, and
I’m excited for everything the future holds and hope my journey inspires others, especially my daughters, to pursue what they love.
My career has been built on creativity, faith, hard work, and a willingness to take risks. I truly believe that when you’re willing to work hard, stay humble, and keep learning, your biggest dreams really can become your reality.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The most important lesson I’ve learned throughout this journey is that consistency and hard work always produce results. Success rarely happens overnight, but showing up day after day, even when no one is watching, is what creates lasting growth.
For a long time, competition intimidated me. I wondered if I could ever stand out when there were already so many talented wedding planners and florists in my area. I worried that I was just another person entering an already crowded industry.
Over time, I realized something that completely changed my perspective: I didn’t need to be like everyone else—I needed to be myself. The qualities, creativity, and experiences that make me different are exactly what make my business unique. There will always be competition, but there is only one you.
I’ve learned that your uniqueness is your greatest strength.
One of the hardest parts of I found on building my business wasn’t the long hours—it was the uncertainty. I constantly wondered if my business would be able to stand on its own, provide a stable income, and allow me to build the life I dreamed of. Starting a business is always a leap of faith, and navigating those early years during COVID only added to the uncertainty.
In the beginning, I was balancing two to three jobs while attending college full-time, all while growing my business on the side. Looking back, I truly believe there couldn’t have been a better time to start. Being in college gave me the opportunity to learn, experiment, make mistakes, and build my business without giving up on my education. Every late night, early morning, and busy season taught me lessons that still shape the way I run my business today.
Those challenges taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of trusting the process. They also showed me that growth doesn’t happen overnight—it comes from consistently showing up, working hard, and believing in yourself even when the future feels uncertain.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Right now I currently offer –
Wedding and Event Planning
Florals
Event design
I specialize in wedding and event floral design, planning, and overall event styling. I love designing with seasonal blooms and creating arrangements that feel natural, intentional, and timeless. Every wedding presents a new creative challenge, and I enjoy pushing myself to create something fresh rather than repeating the same designs over and over again.
What I love most about my work is the opportunity to create something completely unique for every couple. One of the greatest compliments I can receive is when a client fully trusts my vision and gives me the creative freedom to design something that truly reflects their story. Those are often the projects that become the most meaningful and memorable.
One of my favorite parts of the process is watching an event come together from start to finish. Seeing months of planning transform into a beautiful celebration is incredibly rewarding. Even more meaningful are the relationships I build with my couples. Getting to know them, hearing their stories, and helping bring their vision to life is one of the biggest reasons I love what I do.
What I’m most proud of is building a business that allows me to serve couples throughout the Northwest while staying true to my creativity and values. My work reflects who I am and the care I put into every event.
I think what sets me apart is my background in horticulture and floral design as well as my love for this industry.
Understanding plants, flowers, color theory, seasonality, and design principles allows me to create weddings that are both beautiful and thoughtfully designed. My experience as a florist, planner, designer, and educator gives me a unique perspective that helps couples feel confident throughout the entire planning process. I hope my couples see me as a friend and someone that they can trust.
Outside of weddings, my love for plants doesn’t stop. While I don’t do it professionally, I have a passion for gardening and landscape design. I love when friends and family ask for advice about their gardens or outdoor spaces. My husband and I recently purchased our first home, and one of our favorite projects has been creating our own garden and designing the landscape together. It has become another creative outlet that reminds me why I fell in love with horticulture in the first place.
How do you think about luck?
Whether you call it luck or not, I believe the most important thing you can do is say “yes” to opportunities—even if they seem small at the time. Every experience has the potential to teach you something, introduce you to the right people, or open a door you never expected.
I believe I’ve experienced both good luck and difficult seasons, but I’ve learned that what many people call “luck” is often the result of preparation, persistence, and being willing to take opportunities when they come.
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have parents, friends, and mentors who encouraged me to pursue a career that I genuinely loved, even when it felt uncertain. Their belief in me gave me the confidence to take risks that I may not have taken on my own.
Some of the biggest opportunities in my career started with the smallest weddings, simple projects, or connections that didn’t seem significant at the time. Looking back, those moments became the building blocks of my business.
I’ve learned that success isn’t about waiting for the perfect opportunity—it’s about making the most of the opportunities you already have. When you approach each one with excellence, hard work, and gratitude, those small beginnings can lead to incredible things.
Looking back, I can see that every challenge taught me something valuable. Even the setbacks helped me grow as a business owner and creative. They forced me to adapt, work harder, and trust the process.
I don’t believe my success has come from luck alone. It’s come from years of consistency, hard work, taking calculated risks, and saying “yes” to opportunities that pushed me outside my comfort zone. When preparation meets opportunity, that’s when people often call it luck—and I’m incredibly grateful for every opportunity that has helped shape my journey.
