Meet Melanie Roemer of Earth to Mel LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Roemer.

Hi Melanie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into functional nutrition started pretty personally. I spent years struggling with anxiety, depression, and skin problems and a range of debilitating digestive symptoms that no one could explain — until I was finally diagnosed with celiac disease. The disruption to my gut health had taken a real toll on my mental health, and healing my gut became a huge part of my recovery.

At the time, I was actually in school to become a registered dietitian— but what I was learning didn’t align with what my body truly needed to heal. That disconnect is what sparked my passion for functional nutrition and a more root-cause approach to care.

Since then, I’ve combined my background as a dietitian and yoga teacher to help others get the answers I wish I’d had sooner. Through my practice, I help clients look beyond symptoms to understand what’s really driving their mental and physical health. My approach blends functional lab testing, food-as-medicine, and mindfulness — but it’s also deeply compassionate. Having been there myself, I know how hard it can be to make changes when you don’t feel your best, so I meet my clients where they are and guide them from the root up.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not! I loved my first role as a dietitian working for a mental health company, but I always knew I wanted to start my own private practice. When I relocated to Utah from Wisconsin, I thought it would be the perfect time to take the leap— and I quickly learned that building a business from the ground up is no joke. For the first few years, I supplemented my income with contract dietitian roles, bartending, and other part-time work just to make ends meet. Marketing has been especially challenging for me, since I’m not naturally one to toot my own horn.

This past March was a huge milestone— I finally transitioned to running Earth to Mel full time after leaving my last contract side gig. I’m so grateful for where I am, but the journey is far from over. I have big dreams for the future: creating self-guided courses and group programs, expanding my team with additional dietitians, opening an in-person office, and building a multi-disciplinary practice that combines therapy, personal training, acupuncture, and other healing modalities.

We’ve been impressed with Earth to Mel LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Earth to Mel LLC is a virtual private health practice specializing in functional nutrition and mindfulness, currently led solely by me— a registered dietitian and yoga instructor.

What does functional nutrition and mindfulness mean? It means my approach is about digging deeper to uncover the root causes of health challenges and using the power of food as medicine to heal from the inside out, while incorporating mindfulness practices and the brain-gut connection. Through this method, clients often see sustainable results such as weight loss, increased energy, better sleep, improved gut and mental health, and more.

What sets Earth to Mel apart is my focus on empowering clients to understand how their bodies function physiologically— and how to best support their unique needs. Nutrition and health are far more than calories-in, calories-out, and I guide clients to awaken to that understanding. A core passion of mine is helping people improve their relationship with their bodies and with food. Since we spend our entire lives in our bodies and eating, I believe deeply in learning to love ourselves and nourish ourselves in ways that truly support our health.

I also combine the power of food as medicine with targeted testing. Many of us— myself included — have gone to doctors feeling unwell, only to hear, “Everything looks fine.” Strategic bloodwork, hormone & stool testing, and even hair analysis allow us to dig deeper, uncover what’s truly holding someone back, and then use proper nourishment through foods and nutrients to heal.

One of the things I’m most proud of is that Earth to Mel is a space where clients are truly heard, advocated for, and empowered to feel their best physically and mentally.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’m not really sure I consider myself a “luck” person, one way or the other. I tend to believe that everything happens for a reason, and any challenge I’ve faced— or hope to face— can ultimately become a lesson or guide me to the path I need to be on, even if I don’t see it in the moment.

I also think that what some might call “bad luck” often comes from my own choices or oversights. One of the beautiful (and humbling) parts of running a business is that you’re forced to confront those challenges head-on. When I don’t, my business suffers— and when I do, it grows. It’s a constant process of learning, adjusting, and taking responsibility, which I’ve found to be more powerful than luck itself.
