Meet Mimi Bascom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Bascom.

Hi Mimi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I am a Latter-day Saint content creator! I have been creating content for about six years and absolutely love it.

I started out my college career pursuing news media, but after working in sales and seeing the power of social media, my career took a different route. I began working as a corporate social media specialist and upon graduating from BYU in 2020, I started On-Trend Social, my freelance social media management/consulting business. I have loved helping clients from across the country expand their reach on social media!

While going to school, I also began hosting on a YouTube channel called 3 Mormons (now called Saints Unscripted). I had the opportunity to interview some of the most incredible guests and expand my knowledge and testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I also decided to start my own personal YouTube channel (Mimi Bascom) that I still upload on today.

However, I have been able to reach the most people through Instagram and TikTok (@mimi.bascom). My content is created by a Latter-day Saint for Latter-day Saints. I share my lifestyle as an active member of the church and create content about modest fashion, inside jokes from our faith, my testimony, and more. It’s so hard to find influencers to follow today that share your same values, so I hope to be that person for other members of my faith while showing the world that religion is still “cool” and “relevant.”

It has been incredible to connect with people from all around the world through social media and create a safe space for Latter-day Saints online to share their opinions, advice, and love with one another.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It isn’t always easy to put yourself and your faith online. People say it’s taboo to talk about religion, so when you center your entire brand around your faith, you get a wide variety of reactions. Most are positive, but some are very *not* positive.

I receive hateful comments and messages on nearly a daily basis. Most of the time I can laugh them off, but I’d be lying if I said that they didn’t sometimes get to me. I have been doing this for long enough that I feel that I’ve heard every insult in the book about my religion, but sometimes the attacks are personal. If someone ever comes after my personal life or family, those are the comments sting. However, it’s the positive reactions that make everything worth it. Trust me when I say that I wouldn’t be willing to put myself out there if I didn’t feel like I was reaching the right people and making a difference.

(However, on some days it’s best to just not read the comments, or something not very Christ-like may be written and regretted) lol.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I create content for latter-day saints by a latter-day saint. I create mostly short-form videos on Instagram and TikTok, but I also create some long-form videos on YouTube as well. I love to create clean, entertaining content surrounding church culture or educational content that gives my audience the opportunity to share their opinions and advice with one another. I’m probably best known for my content about dressing modestly (modest fashion ideas, tips on wearing our religious garments). I am the most proud of content that makes a difference for my audience members. Many of them don’t have other people to talk to about these topics, so I’m honored that they would turn to my page and for the opportunity to connect with them!
