Hi Nicole, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m Nicole, I’m the one-woman-show behind Metallic Bloom. Just me, myself, and I, and a ridiculous amount of gems.It all started with a love for making jewelry (beading, charms, and more), which quickly progressed into making jewelry from scratch when a friend asked if I could make her a ring. Everything I learned was either by research or trial and error. I eventually even learned to cut and shape my own stones.
It’s been over a five-year process to get where I am today, and it has been a mix of exciting and trying times, but it was always worth it.
While following my new passion, I realized what my real mission needed to be. I wanted to promote embracing self-uniqueness and self-appreciation because of my own experiences.
Before then, I didn’t even know what self-love was. Every day was a constant struggle to remold me into something I would never be and I was making myself miserable. One day I had had enough and that’s when it just clicked. I was constantly trying to change who I was to please other people and society and I believed that was going to make me truly happy.
I learned to love myself, not to conform to society’s standards, and love my style for what it’s supposed to be. That changed everything for me and I want that for everyone else.
Now, years later, I built my business to contribute to the uniqueness of others, so no unique style goes unloved, and it’s been such a blessing. Be one-of-a-kind. Be you.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Running a small business has never been a smooth road. Especially when you’re running everything yourself. Suddenly you have to become an expert in every type of position of your business. Not to mention the highs and lows of the pandemic and the economy. There’s so much trial and error, and sometimes you feel like you can’t do anything right.
It’s not all lows though. There are so many rewards of contributing your passion to the world that make it all worth it. You meet so many wonderful people and make connections that change your life for the better. Doing what you love is unbelievably fulfilling, and you’ll be surprised how much you’ll grow as a person.
Sure, it might not be easy. All things worth doing come at a cost, but they’re absolutely worth doing.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Metallic Bloom isn’t your average jewelry business. My style is intentionally different from the average jewelry and meant to be statement pieces. They’re intended to be a reflection and expression of your one-of-a-kind style. All of my materials are ethically and sustainably sourced, and I focus on quality over quantity. Everything is made to be heirloom pieces so you can pass them down to future generations. I even strive to cut and shape all of the stones that go into each piece.
My favorite metals to create are Sterling Silver, Gold-filled, and Brass. But I can create in most non-ferrous metals. These are pieces like rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and the occasional headband. Customers love pieces with Turquoise and Opal, but my gem collection is composed of over 100 different types of stones, so I’m always exploring different choices. I do custom work, where we bring your ideas to life or collaborate on an idea, so some people even send me their own stones.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I’m honestly not sure where the jewelry industry is going in the next 5-10 years. Especially with life being as unpredictable as it has been the past couple of years. But I’m going to keep moving forward and adapting with the times and tackle whatever life throws my way so I can continue to contribute my passion and mission to those that love it.
