Meet Omar Dominguez of Spicy Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar Dominguez.

Hi Omar, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started 30 years ago in the food industry working in the first Arby’s in my hometown, Veracruz México.
Then I moved to Utah and started working in one of the busiest restaurants at the time, started cleaning tables and washing dishes, months later I was moved to cashier and after that to manage the “small kitchen”, which was a kitchen producing one plate every 20 seconds.
There I learned the magic, the science behind the food industry, and I fell in love, i instantly knew that was what I wanted to do forever.
Then after 15 years of working in several restaurants, different kinds of food, days, nights, weekends, one day o lost my job, one of the 3 I normally had, I started looking for a job, and when in one application I was about to answer “years of experience” I was going to write “15”, then it hit me, with all this experience I should start my own business coming consulting for restaurants! And then Spicy Consulting was born!
At that point I started offering “secret shopping service” then added more services.
In the coming months my wife and I we created Crown Alfajores, which is a company dedicated to create cookies with recipes from South America, we operate that company until today.
Spicy Consulting found a niche where we started helping the community to open businesses, we specialize in open restaurants, food trucks and food companies, and for almost a decade we have opened around 160 companies all of them dedicated to offer food to the community.
Now we are very focused on consulting services, we help businesses to grow and improve their operations, always looking to make better operators and grow efficient food businesses.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Struggles are part of the road.
My main challenge has been how to help as much people as possible, and also how can I ensure they are successful, because sometimes they can’t understand that even having the best product, food is only one piece of the success in this industry.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are the only integral consulting firm that can help with every aspect of the business, from staffing, cooking menu design etc.
I feel very proud of all the companies we have helped, because I saw them from one idea to actually have a successful business that grows with the time.

What matters most to you? Why?
The community. To me when a family puts all their efforts in start – business it’s amazing, I can see how they are so committed to their dreams and are willing to work super hard to make that dream come true, the community is what makes Utah a fantastic place to live.
