Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Rojas and Ezra Lopez.
Hi Pamela and Ezra, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Ezra started cooking in 2011 in a hibachi restaurant in Provo, Utah, when he was 17 years old, the restaurant’s name was Kyoto. The same place where he met me, (Pamela), I also started working there at the age of 17 in 2014 as a server, where I was working to pay for my college degree. Ezra and I got married in 2019 and he is an amazing support and partner in every aspect of my life. That is why after many years of being in the restaurant industry, we decided to start our own business together.
We wanted something new and innovative in Utah and with Ezra’s years of experience and excellent cooking skills, we decided to start our own Teppanyaki catering.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been hard to start a business and to this day it is still a hard process. We both are working full time jobs in the morning (the traditional 9-5) as well as some serving work at a restaurant in the evenings. We just started also going into farmers markets on Saturday mornings to promote our business.
We do catering as planned events, so on the days we have events we take off work or we work earlier to get out on time to prep everything for the catering event.
Some nights we are done working at 2am. Which we believe is worth it when we see the progress in our goals.
Finding clients and promoting is one of the biggest struggles, yet we have had amazing customers.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in bringing an excellent teppanyaki experience to people’s houses/venues. We are known for bringing great food and show, people get to enjoy their time eating with a chef cooking their fresh meal.
I believe what set us apart from the others is our dedication to making an unforgettable event for everyone that attends. As well as Ezra’s amazing cooking skills.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We love to have locals share with us their crafts and we try to implement them in our events. We believe that community support is necessary. Sharing each other social media or using the services is how we can all support each other.
