Meet Rosamaria Buono of Battipaglia (Italy)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosamaria Buono

Hi Rosamaria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Rosamaria Buono, born in Salerno in 1990. I first picked up a camera at the age of fifteen, but it wasn’t until I was nineteen that I truly felt the passion and drive to take photography seriously. It was then that I knew I wanted to create, so I threw myself into learning and honing my skills. Although I’m largely self-taught, growing up during the rise of digital technologies and social media helped me gain a deeper understanding of my intentions and creative direction. This eventually led me to graduate in visual arts.

Afterward, I moved to New York, where I had the opportunity to grow both as an artist and as a person. In 2021, I took a master course at Officine Fotografiche in Rome to reconnect with myself and my vision. The course focused on discovering one’s unique voice and style, which allowed me to explore more the conceptual and personal aspects of my photography.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth, and I’d say every day is a challenge. I’m a very humble person, and I never put myself first. I tend to be my own harshest critic and can never fully be satisfied with my work, no matter how far I go. This constant drive to improve keeps pushing me to raise the bar higher, but it also creates obstacles. I often feel like I’m holding back my own creativity, which makes me question if I’m unintentionally hindering my own growth.

I also struggle with asking for help or taking advantage of moments or people along the way. I tend to prefer reaching my goals on my own, no matter what life throws at me. This mindset has made my path quite difficult and very slow, and there are many times when I feel completely blocked. At moments, the thought of abandoning everything feels overwhelming and very real. But then, I remind myself that there’s nothing else I could do—it’s truly visceral. This is who I am, and I know I can’t walk away from it, no matter how challenging the journey might feel.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in creating emotive, conceptual photography, often drawing inspiration from self-portraiture, personal experiences, and the raw beauty of everyday life. My work revolves around capturing honest emotions and telling visual stories that resonate deeply with those who view them. I’m known for my clear visual language, intimate approach, and the vulnerability I bring to my subjects, whether they are personal projects or commissioned work.

What sets me apart is my continuous quest for self-expression and the way I challenge myself to push the boundaries of my creativity. I’m not afraid to dive into uncomfortable or complex emotions, which often results in imagery that feels raw and authentic. I think the most proud moments come from seeing my work being showcased in various cities like Prague and Milan or published in Tokyo, as well as the positive responses I get from people who connect with my vision. These experiences have helped shape my artistic journey and continue to inspire me as I grow in my craft.

I’d say what truly distinguishes my work is my unwavering dedication to evolve while remaining true to my personal style and voice, always with the intention to provoke thought and stir emotion in the audience. My photography is a reflection of my own struggles, growth, and unfiltered perspective on life.
My work is influenced by self-portraiture, clear visual language and emotions. I aim to create images that evoke deep feelings, drawing inspiration from everyday life and real-world experiences.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always open to working with fellow artists, brands, and creatives who align with my vision. Whether it’s editorial, conceptual photography, or personal projects, let’s bring ideas to life together.

I’m available for commissioned work, whether it’s portraits or documentary-style photography. Though I’m based in Italy, I’m happy to travel for the right projects.

If you’re an artist, designer, or storyteller looking for a visual counterpart, let’s create something unique and meaningful together or if you’d like to feature my work in a gallery, magazine, or online platform, I’d love to hear more.

Sharing my work, engaging with it, and spreading the word means a lot. Every comment, share, and collaboration helps grow the creative community. You can reach out through my website: rosabuonophotographer.com or connect with me on social media. Let’s create something unforgettable!
