Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryann Doria.
Hi Ryann, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started working in theatre and theatre design, and happened to fall into the wedding industry. A friend was looking for assistants around the time I was looking for work after having my first child. The first wedding I worked with her was so busy and I absolutely loved it. I worked with her for a long time, even when I branched out to do my own alternative and non-traditional weddings. Over the years I’ve niched down more and more and am finally in a place where I have clients that are so aligned, and it’s fabulous.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course it hasn’t been a smooth road! Starting out and working so many weddings and undercharging, before I knew how to actually run a business, almost burnt me out. Then, as my business was known and I was regularly booking events, we moved states! I’m building up my business again in a new market, while staying present in other states, which has been a whole new learning process. I think everything that has changed has only made me better as a business owner.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Ryann Kristena Events?
Ryann Kristena Events is a wedding and event planning company that specializes in non-traditional and alternative events. We focus on designing elevated experiences, true to you. Tradition for tradition’s sake? No thank you.
I think we have a few things that set us apart: our ideology, our LOVE method, the 4D planning process, and the way that we make sure our clients are seen, understood, and supported through their planning journey.
I’m most proud of the fact that people reach out to us for our vibes. People see the work that we do and think to themselves, “oh I want that!” We have our “standard” packages, but I am also happy to create something custom for people. At the end of the day, I think that everyone deserves to have the event support they need, and I want to make sure that we can help the best we can.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’ve been listening to Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara, and enjoying that so far. Superfans by Pay Fynn is another audiobook I’m listening to.
I’m not too big on podcasts, but there’s a history one and Ologies by Ali Ward that I like. Ali Ward also has one called Smologies, geared towards kids, and it’s awesome. There’s a podcast that was on pause for a while, and recently came back, by Braden Drake: Unf*ck Your Biz With Braden, and I’m pretty excited it’s back.
I could not get through life without my calendar app. If it’s not in the calendar, it doesn’t exist. Family, kids, work, etc, I have it all organized. I do like a written to do list though, so my beautiful snoopy notebook gets used at the top of each week to brainstorm everything I need to get done. And my notes app is for the thoughts while I’m out and about but need to write it down so I don’t forget. It’s a little all over the place, but it’s what works for me.
