Meet Sadie Jay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sadie Jay.

Hi Sadie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I am Sadie Jay from Six80, we have guitars, gifts and clothing and also do guitar lessons. I started my business by designing my own T-shirts and selling them at markets and events and then eventually online, and also giving guitar lessons on the side while at the same time working full time, after about 8 years of doing that, I finally decided to go for it and open my own shop. I named it Six80 because 680 is my favorite number. I remember the excitement of opening up, and trying to make sure everything was perfect. We started with just gifts and clothing, and guitar lessons and events, a year later we added guitars, and around that same time we added art classes and art shows. It’s been even more fun than I had imagined and keep trying to progress every day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has always had ups and downs and getting established is a process that anyone would need a lot of patience for. 6 months after we had opened covid hit and it was pretty scary, I didn’t qualify for any of the grants because we were not in business long enough to qualify, so I started delivering and doing most of my sales online to coast through, also did curbside delivery. It was a crazy time but learned how to be resilient from it. So happy that Six80 survived!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Guitar lessons and guitars. Guitar is my passion and has been playing since I was a kid, I’ve been in a local band since I was 16 years old. (Necropsy) I think that’s when I started using my business skills. I started teaching guitar close to 10 years ago just to survive but loving doing it all at the same time! I indulge myself in everything about guitar, It’s definitely the heart of Six80!

What’s next?
Eventually, I’d like to open Six80 in another state and keep the one running here if I can, or relocate and run an apartment complex at the same time. Fingers crossed.
