Meet Samantha Franks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Franks.

Hi Samantha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been taking pictures since I was around 6 years old. My dad had a film camera that I was always using. Take photos of flowers in the garden set up my stuffed animals and stage them. I have always had a love for it. When I was 19, I bought my first professional camera and started doing weddings and portraits.

I stopped a couple of years late due to a lack of confidence. I still took photos just for fun and of my travels. I worked for Delta Air Lines for 5 years and in 2020 during the pandemic, they offered a really good severance package to leave the company to hopefully stop layoffs.

I took it and told myself I would finally make photography my career. I took that leap of faith and just dove right in. So here I am today making all the magic happen.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been smooth sailing but I have learned most of what holds me back is myself. I just learned that I had to learn to be kinder to myself and push myself to really get out there and show my work. The more I am able to do that the more I succeed with what I’m doing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a wedding and portrait photographer from Salt Lake City, Utah. I love people and I love photographing people. I love making people feel good about themselves and capturing the love people have for one another. I am most proud of creating what I have today by myself.

Pushing myself when I didn’t think I was good enough and constantly showing up. I think what sets me apart from others is how I connect with people. I have always loved human connection and I create special relationships with all my clients. I usually become best friends with my clients and I try to make it an experience they never forget.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
This is such a hard question because I feel like there are a million little things that make me happy, but I will list just a few. I cherish my morning coffee with my cats and having a slow start to my day. I love yoga and how it makes me feel more balanced in this crazy life. Traveling will always have such a huge place in my heart.

You learn so much about the world and yourself and it is something more people should do because it’s very humbling. Of course, the biggest thing is my camera. being able to capture memories throughout my life and also help others capture their memories is the coolest and most special thing.

Those are all my simple pleasures in life. You create your happiness.
