Meet Scott Williams of Zion Cycles, Zion Guide Hub, and Deep Creek Coffee Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Williams

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Heidi Gledhill and I were inspired to open Deep Creek Coffee Company, a coffee shop focused on quality for Zion visitors in 2011. At that time I had been an adventure guide for 10 years and wanted to continue so we also started a guide service, Zion Guide Hub. It was a grind showing up early every morning for store hours and working on building the businesses into the nights. We are community focused and our community has supported us. In 2016 we bought Zion Cycles to expand the guiding into a storefront and bring the focus on bikes. In 2022 we won the National Public Lands Alliance Commercial partnership award. We want to share our love a support for public lands with our customers and community. As business owners, we see we have the opportunity to influence and choose to run a company that supports our public lands and open spaces.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There is always another challenge, lesson or skill to learn when you where so many hats with such a diversity of businesses. From learning to maintain and repair espresso machines, create new menu items, maintain permits with land managers, hiring for seasonal demands. Learning to adapt to demands of the market, at the same time being true to our mission for being in business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Heidi Gledhill and I started Deep Creek Coffee and Zion Guide Hub together 14 years ago with the goal to give people a better Zion Experience with quality coffee, and thoughtful adventures. Our goal was to provide people with clean healthy food and to deliver the final step in the coffee chain with purpose and positive intention. Deep Creek works to find partners that are thoughtful in their products and push the line of sustainability. It’s our goal to support the mission of the Park Service and think about the big picture of long term environmental goals. With Zion Guide Hub we get to be out in the field sharing the amazing natural beauty and adventure that the Zion area has to offer. We offer canyoneering, climbing, mountain biking, gravel biking and guided hiking in and around Zion National Park. Our goal is to help our guest challenge themselves, try something new, and leave with a better understanding and connection to our public lands. Zion Cycles goal is to help people experience life on two wheels. Our soul is connected to mountain biking and our purpose is helping people see the park the best way available, by bike. Zion Cycles won the Public Lands Alliance 2022 Commercial Partnership Award. We have been supporting the Zion Forever Project in there mission to provide support for Zion National Park. Zion Cycles is assisting with the funding needed to build and maintain the Applecross Trails on the East side of Zion as well as other pressing projects and needs for the park service.

Any big plans?
We are excited for the 2025 season and helping share the message of sustainability, responsibility and enjoyability of our amazing southern Utah terrain.
