Meet Shannon Robinson of Springville, UT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Robinson.

Hi Shannon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My #1 joy is my family: my husband John and our four kids, and the thing I treasure most is our time together. LIfe-long joy springs from the memories made spent traveling and experiencing the world together.

Several years ago I opened an independent travel agency, Joyvoya Cruise & Travel, where I guide individuals and families to create their own joy-filled memories traveling with their loved ones.

My professional travel experience is shaped by our family dynamics, which includes both disability and mental health considerations. Sometimes people hold back from choosing adventure because disability and mental health concerns can be daunting. Yet happy experiences traveling are possible and worth reaching for!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I opened my agency I thought I’d specialize in helping families plan travel who have special needs to consider. As it turns out, by far the largest clientele I get is actually first-time cruisers. Thankfully, I love it! It’s rewarding to help people new-to-cruising find the best cruise line, ship, and itinerary to fit their needs!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The best part of my job is when clients return from their trip and share stories of their favorite memories–memories they wouldn’t have had if they hadn’t decided to travel, and I’m glad I get to be a part of that.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I feel lucky to be a mom to my four unique kids. They each teach me differently, and shape who I’m becoming. My oldest son has Down syndrome, which has introduced me to a wide community of people and experiences I wouldn’t know otherwise, and the same goes for my daughter who struggles at times with mental health. All these things add breadth to my knowledge base and empathy for others’ experiences.

I’m also lucky to have married a guy who likes to travel and supports me as I grow my business. My husband is the one who actually got us started with cruising. Now we find it’s the best way for our family to have a vacation that everyone can enjoy.
