Meet Sky Faux

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sky Faux.

Hi Sky, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up as a performer – ever since I was 3 and got up on stage at the state fair! At age 6 I started musical theater and fell in love. That brought me to discovering drag at 14. I was introduced via RuPaul’s Drag Race, and I was in awe. I decided my dream job was to be a drag queen, but the issue was that I was born a girl, and at the time it was almost unheard of for women to be drag queens. I had drag in the back of my mind for years following until I decided to take the plunge at the end of 2021, after attending drag shows and thinking “I could do that!”

My first drag show was a lip sync battle, which I lost (the battle as well as my wig). But as soon as I got off stage, Sally Cone Slopes came up and booked me for my first real solo performance. And ever since, I’ve been booked and busy!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely been a bit rocky along the way. Growing up I dealt with a highly chaotic family situation, and without getting into it too much, performing became an escape. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve also had mental health struggles, including a severe manic episode last spring, right after I had started drag. Coming out of that, drag truly saved me by providing me with not only a purpose but a community of people who love and welcome me with open arms.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a proud drag queen. What sets me apart is definitely my AFAB status, as female drag queens are few and far between. But not only that…I’m also a killer performer. I’m a resident queen at Why Kiki, and I’m there Wednesday-Sunday. When you come to a Sky Faux show, expect emotion, energy, fashion, and overall hot girl stuff!

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is when my grandma (who raised me) got her retirement check and we went on a cruise, as well as to Disneyworld. I remember dressing up as Belle and doing a photoshoot on the ship, and I was living my best life!
