Meet Skylar Bytendorp of Utah Podcast Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skylar Bytendorp.

Hi Skylar, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Utah Podcast Studio started because I saw how difficult podcasting had become for people who simply wanted to share their message.

So many creators were spending thousands of dollars on equipment, trying to learn cameras, lighting, audio, editing, hosting, and social media before they could even record their first episode. I knew there had to be a better way.

I started with the idea of creating a place where anyone could walk in, sit down, and record a professional podcast without having to worry about the technical side. Over time, that vision grew into something much bigger. Today, we offer multiple professionally designed recording sets, editing, distribution, social media clips, coaching, and ongoing memberships so our clients can focus on creating content while my team handles everything else.

Building the studio hasn’t always been easy. Like most small businesses, there have been plenty of challenges, lessons, and pivots along the way. But every obstacle has reinforced the same mission: make professional content creation simple and accessible.

One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been watching our clients succeed. We’ve worked with first-time podcasters who were nervous to record their very first episode, as well as established creators, entrepreneurs, and businesses who use podcasting to grow their brands and connect with their audiences.

We’re still growing, constantly improving the experience, and finding new ways to help creators succeed. At the end of the day, the goal is simple: make it as easy as possible for people to share their ideas with the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. Like most business owners, I’ve learned that almost nothing goes exactly as planned.

One of the biggest challenges has been building a business in an industry that many people don’t fully understand yet. Podcasting has exploded in popularity, but a lot of people still assume they need to buy expensive equipment and record from home. Part of our job has been educating people that there’s an easier way—that they can simply show up, record, and let someone else handle the production.

Another challenge has been learning to wear every hat. In the beginning, I was the salesperson, marketer, studio engineer, editor, customer support, and janitor all at the same time. As the business has grown, I’ve had to learn how to build systems, hire great people, and trust others with responsibilities that I used to handle myself.

Like any small business, there have also been financial challenges and moments where growth was slower than I hoped. Those moments forced me to become more disciplined, think long-term, and focus on creating a business that delivers real value instead of chasing quick wins.

Looking back, I’m actually grateful for those challenges. They’ve shaped both me and the business, and they’ve made us much better at serving our clients. Every obstacle has taught me something that I probably couldn’t have learned any other way.

As you know, we’re big fans of Utah Podcast Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Utah Podcast Studio is a full-service podcast production studio built around one simple idea: creating professional content shouldn’t be complicated.

We provide everything creators and businesses need to produce high-quality podcasts and video content in one place. That includes professionally designed recording sets, studio-grade audio and video equipment, editing, distribution, social media clips, and coaching. Whether someone is recording their very first episode or producing content every week, our goal is to make the process as simple and stress-free as possible.

What really sets us apart is that we don’t just rent out a room with cameras. We become a production partner. Our clients can walk in, record, and leave knowing the technical side is taken care of. We like to say, “Record and Forget. We Handle the Rest.”

We’re also proud to be building a community around podcasting in Utah. Beyond recording sessions, we host networking events, educational workshops, and create opportunities for podcasters, entrepreneurs, and business owners to connect with one another. We’ve seen firsthand how powerful podcasting can be—not just for growing a business, but for building relationships and preserving stories that might otherwise never be shared.

More than anything, I want people to know that podcasting isn’t just for celebrities or large companies. Some of the most impactful podcasts come from everyday business owners, professionals, and people with valuable experiences to share. If someone has a message worth sharing, we want to remove every technical barrier that might stop them from getting started.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that consistency beats perfection.

When I first started, I thought every decision had to be perfect before moving forward. Over time, I realized that businesses grow by taking action, learning from mistakes, and improving as they go. The businesses and creators who see the most success aren’t necessarily the ones with the best equipment or the perfect strategy—they’re the ones who keep showing up.

I’ve also learned that relationships are everything. Some of our biggest opportunities haven’t come from advertising or sales tactics. They’ve come from genuinely helping people, building trust, and creating an experience that makes clients want to come back and tell others about us. If you focus on serving people well, the business tends to take care of itself.

That mindset has shaped how I run Utah Podcast Studio. Every improvement we make is driven by one question: “How can we make this easier and more valuable for our clients?” When you consistently solve real problems for people, growth becomes a byproduct rather than the goal.
