Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Baird.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been drawn to building things that solve real problems. My background is a mix of entrepreneurship, real estate, and nonprofit work, and most of what I’ve built has come from seeing a gap firsthand and deciding not to ignore it. I’ve started businesses the scrappy way—learning by doing, making mistakes, and iterating quickly—while also working on long-term projects that require patience, discipline, and trust.
One of the defining throughlines in my work has been safety and stewardship—of people, families, and resources. That led me to create BoostedSafe after realizing there wasn’t a secure, practical way for responsible gun owners to store firearms in vehicles without sacrificing speed, discretion, or design. What started as a simple idea turned into a product that now serves thousands of customers, and the process taught me how to move from concept to manufacturing, compliance, branding, and scale.
Alongside my business work, I’m deeply involved in nonprofit housing and recovery efforts, focused on helping people rebuild their lives with dignity and ownership. Today, I’m in a place where I’m still building—products, properties, and systems—but with more clarity around why I’m doing it. I care about creating things that last, that protect people, and that give others a stronger foundation than they had before.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No—it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Most of the progress has come through friction. Early on, I underestimated how long things would take and how many moving parts there would be—especially around manufacturing, compliance, and cash flow. There were moments where a single delay or mistake had a ripple effect across everything else.
I’ve also had to learn some hard lessons about focus and boundaries. When you’re building multiple things at once, it’s easy to say yes too often, carry too much, and confuse being busy with actually moving forward. Letting go of certain ideas, tightening priorities, and making uncomfortable decisions were necessary steps.
Probably the biggest challenge has been staying resilient when progress wasn’t visible yet—putting in months of work before there was proof it would pay off. Looking back, those stretches were where the most important growth happened. They forced me to get clearer, more disciplined, and more honest with myself. In hindsight, the obstacles weren’t detours—they were the training.
We’ve been impressed with BoostedSafe or Salt Of The Earth, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m involved in two organizations that may look very different on the surface, but are actually built on the same core belief: people do better when they’re trusted, protected, and given real responsibility.
BoostedSafe is a product company focused on secure, responsible firearm storage—specifically in vehicles. We design safes that are discreet, fast-access, and built for real life, not just compliance. What sets BoostedSafe apart is that we didn’t start with a spec sheet—we started with behavior. We asked: What would actually make a responsible gun owner more likely to store their firearm safely, every single day?
That led to a product that balances speed, security, design, and usability in a way that hadn’t really existed before. Brand-wise, I’m most proud that BoostedSafe has earned trust. Customers don’t just buy it—they recommend it, defend it, and rely on it to protect their families. That matters more to me than any metric.
Salt of the Earth is a nonprofit focused on housing and long-term recovery for people coming out of addiction. But it’s intentionally not a charity model built on handouts. We focus on dignity, accountability, and ownership—giving people the chance to literally help build their future through work, education, and contribution. What sets us apart is that we don’t define people by their worst chapter. We design systems that help them rebuild identity, skills, and self-respect in a tangible way.
What I want people to know about both brands is this: they’re built with intention. Whether it’s a product meant to keep a child safe or a program meant to help someone restart their life, we obsess over details because the stakes are real. I’m proud of the brands not just for what they sell or provide—but for what they stand for: responsibility, stewardship, and building things that last.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
If I had to pick one, it would be ownership.
Not just ownership in the business sense, but personal ownership—taking full responsibility for outcomes instead of outsourcing blame to circumstances, timing, or other people. When something isn’t working, I try to assume it’s my job to either fix it, learn from it, or change course.
That mindset has been critical in both BoostedSafe and Salt of the Earth. It’s what allows you to stay calm under pressure, make hard decisions, and keep moving forward when there’s no clear playbook. Ownership creates clarity. It forces honesty. And over time, it builds trust—with customers, partners, and the people you’re serving.
Talent helps. Luck helps. But ownership is what compounds.
