Meet Stephanie Noble

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Noble.

Hi Stephanie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Utah. I love Utah for its incredible mountains and outdoor activities. I am also one of many Utahns who have struggled with substance abuse. My story isn’t unique. And I hope by sharing it I can show other people what’s possible. That we can overcome addiction and live beautiful lives.

I struggled with addiction for many years. I have been to the lowest of lows and my life is completely different now. I was lucky enough to get treatment five different times and I’m so grateful for the treatment centers here in Utah.

I have been sober for over six and a half years now. I currently work as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor in Sandy, Utah. Helping other people in recovery is my purpose and I’m so grateful to be able to do this for my job.

Addicts and alcoholics are the most beautiful people I have ever known. They are resilient and kind and brilliant people. I hope to do my part in crushing the social stigma that surrounds us.

I have also started my own journal line because journaling has been one of the greatest tools I have used in my sobriety journey. It’s called Noble Paper Company and I’m very passionate about women-owned businesses.

My life has become something I wouldn’t have recognized or even believed seven years ago.

We do recover.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Addiction is the bumpiest of roads. I felt so hopeless. I wanted to get sober so bad but didn’t know how. I relapsed over and over and over again. The disease of addiction is a painful and grueling experience. I’m so glad there were people who came before me and showed me the way.

Through every bump in the road, I had people loving me through it. My Mother has been my greatest cheerleader, and she never gave up on me no matter how many times I fell. I am forever grateful for her endless love and countless nights she sat with me while I went through extreme withdrawal.

Supportive people make the difference. I know how hard it can be to love an addict and I’m so blessed to have had people who kept loving me when I didn’t know how to love myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My day job as a counselor is the most meaningful work I have ever done in my life. Being able to help people as they save their own lives is indescribable. I have the honor and privilege of seeing peoples’ recovery journey from the inside. I am so proud of all the people fighting addiction.

My journal business is another wonderful creative outlet and aides in my recovery so much. Creating journals that help people makes me feel so inspired and I’m so lucky to be able to offer such a soulful product to people.

I am most proud of being a woman in long-term recovery. I hope people hear my story and see the light at the end of the tunnel. There IS help out there. And we can overcome even the darkest of days.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For recovery: take it one day at a time. Surround yourself with supportive people who are living the lifestyle you want to live. Connect with nature and things that make you feel alive. Talk about your struggles and be open about the triggers and cravings. We don’t get sober alone. We do it together.

For starting a creative small business: go for it. Just start somewhere. Your ideas are meaningful and your creativity is wanted in this world. Find mentors and build relationships. Ask for help and work hard in getting your ideas to come to life.
