Today we’d like to introduce you to TaMara Sorensen.
Hi TaMara , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In the early 2000s, TaMara Sorensen and Rita Morgan—the original owners of Crone’s Hollow—were members of a witchcraft coven in Salt Lake City. Earth Haven Coven, the oldest coven in Utah, was also the spiritual home of Rita’s brother, Roy Moorman.
In 2010, Roy was killed in an automobile accident just a few blocks from where Crone’s Hollow now stands. From that profound grief came a shared vision: to create a welcoming place that seekers from every magical path could call home—a place filled with classes, events, music, festivals, psychic readers and the tools needed to explore and practice magic.
Crone’s Hollow opened its doors in March 2011. In the more than 15 years since, we have welcomed countless new friends, grown a vibrant magical community and moved into a location we are proud to call our own. We also endured another heartbreaking loss when Rita passed away in 2019. Her spirit, along with Roy’s, remains deeply woven into the heart and history of Crone’s Hollow. Rita’s daughter, April Souleret, has joined TaMara in leading Crone’s Hollow into our future iteration.
Today, we continue Rita’s legacy by creating our own incense, candles, spell kits, conjure oils, beginner witch kits and much more. We have watched Fairy Fest grow from a small gathering of local vendors into a lively two-day spring festival. Throughout the year, our community comes together for psychic fairs, broom-making classes, séances, music, workshops and public rituals led by local covens and hearths.
Crone’s Hollow was born from love, loss and the belief that everyone deserves a place to belong. More than 15 years later, we remain a home for seekers, a gathering place for community and a magical place where people can learn, celebrate and walk their own unique paths.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When we first opened a witchcraft store in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley, we expected to encounter some resistance—but instead, we found a welcoming and supportive community. The people of South Salt Lake have embraced Crone’s Hollow as a place where alternative spiritual paths can be explored openly and respectfully.
We are located next door to an Islamic center and across the street from an LDS church, and our relationships with our neighbors have always been warm and welcoming. Perhaps that is because, at Crone’s Hollow, we strive to create positivity, acceptance and a little magic at every turn.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
For 30 years, I worked as the customer service manager of a call center. During that time, I also discovered and deepened my spiritual path, successfully balancing my professional career with my magical practice until I retired in 2021. By then, Crone’s Hollow had been open for a decade, and it was a joy to finally devote my full attention to magic, spellcraft and the community we had created.
I am an initiated Witch with more than 30 years of experience devoted to the path of Hedgewitchery. I specialize in the artistry of incense making and the creation of candle magic. I am also a certified herbalist, crystal-ball scryer and Seer.
Over the years, I have served as a local coordinator for Salt Lake Pagan Pride and as a virtue holder for Utah’s Green Witch ritual. I am the founder of the Utah Black Hat Society and the Witches High Tea, as well as a teller of tales through the Mother Goose and Story Witch children’s story circles. I am also a stained-glass artist and an unapologetic crochet fiend.
To me, all of these are magical pursuits. Each one brings me closer to my most authentic spiritual self. I am deeply proud to be in a position where I can share my knowledge and experience while offering magical tools, handcrafted creations and quality supplies to support others within our community as they walk their own paths.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
There are many hidden aspects of me. I share very little of my personal life because I believe there is power in silence—and even greater power in knowing what should remain sacred.
We live in a time of constant broadcasting, when even the most intimate parts of ourselves are often offered up for attention and “likes.” But when we turn the sacred self into public entertainment, we risk diminishing the very magic we are trying to create. Some things gain their strength by being guarded.
So yes, there are surprising and little-known things about me—but you must be invited into the inner circle to discover them. To find that inner circle, visit Crone’s Hollow. This is the hidden secret of anyone who sincerely walks the crooked path.
