Meet Taylor Aramburu of Don Aramburu Salsa Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Aramburu.

Hi Taylor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started making salsa while living as a church volunteer in northern Mexico. There were a few women, specifically, who had truly refined the craft, and thanks to them I learned the basics. When I got back to Utah, taco nights quickly became a tradition in my family. I made homemade tortillas, pork carnitas, and pico, but my specialty has always been salsas.

My wife and I continued this tradition after we got married, and when the pandemic hit, we started a robust garden full of tomatoes and peppers. One day, we picked a huge crop of tomatoes and decided to take the day to make salsa and deliver it to family and friends. We got great feedback from everyone – they loved it – and that was the push we needed to start our business.

We officially started Don Aramburu Salsa Co. in September 2020. Since then, we have been making and delivering fresh salsa to Salt Lake, Davis, and Utah Counties. Each month we introduce a new specialty flavor in addition to our recurring lineup, which includes Guajillo, Tomatillo Verde, Mama’s Guac, El Clasico, Serrano Dip, and Queso Blanco. We primarily do business through deliveries, but last summer we expanded to a few farmer’s markets, as well. We love what we do and look forward to expanding our business this year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If we had 30 hours a day and no other responsibilities, starting our business would still have been difficult. With the universally-allotted 24, in addition to our full-time jobs, family responsibilities, and other demands on our time, suffice it to say that it’s been tough. However, the harder we work, the more fulfilling it becomes.

Success reveals breaking points, and as we have grown, we have definitely reached several breaking points of our own. As an example, we recently welcomed our daughter into the world. We took a few weeks off to adjust to parenthood, but this short time flew by, and we soon found ourselves working up to 15 hours a day during the holiday rush with a newborn in tow.

It was a challenging time, but the ways we needed to grow became obvious. Without this time, we wouldn’t be pushed out of our comfort zones and find ways to grow our business and our dreams.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Don Aramburu Salsa Company?

What do you like and dislike about the city?
We love Salt Lake City. The food scene here is growing in exciting ways, and we’ve loved being a small part of that the last few years. People care about their neighbors, the environment, and making our city better. We love the growing diversity in the city, and the Salt Lake of 2022 is very different than it was even 15 years ago.

We love the easy access to some of the most incredible outdoor experiences in the world, the stunning natural beauty which surrounds our city, and the growing sense of urbanism in Salt Lake and beyond as the population grows. Salt Lake is our home, and yet we’re always finding new places, meeting new people, and experiencing new things here. It’s an exciting place to be.
