Meet Tiani Anglade of Salt Lake City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiani Anglade

Hi Tiani, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey in photography and videography is nothing without some important people in my life. I have to credit my start in photography and videography to my parents. My mom & dad were those parents who took photos and videos of us all of the time. One of my family’s favorite things to do is watch home videos together. Preserving memories is important to my family and it rubbed off on me. So it was really cool when my dad let me have the old digital family camera when they upgraded to a better camera. I felt like I had a tool for capturing beauty. I’d walk around the house taking photos of mundane things: counter corners, windows, wall decor, etc. There was so much beauty around me and I wanted to preserve it forever. Then our home was broken into and my beloved hand-me-down camera was stolen. I just hope the burglar enjoyed those photos of the kitchen counter taken by a 7-year-old.
Years later as an adult, my parents gifted me another camera for Christmas. A new one. A Canon T6i. It was beautiful and it was all mine! I was studying broadcast journalism at the time at Brigham Young University and was able to use that beginner DSLR camera to photograph and film news stories for our student-led news show. That camera came with me to fun photoshoots with friends and all the way to Europe. It wasn’t until a good friend of mine encouraged me to start taking photography and videography more seriously that I started investing more time into my hobby. She even booked my first clients for me and labeled herself as my “manager”. She helped give me confidence in my abilities and I’m forever grateful for her.
I practiced a lot by taking photos and videos of family and friends for free or very affordable prices. I was so shy to ask people to pay me for my work. As I gained more experience and learned from fellow photographers and videographers, I gained more assurance that I could actually do something with this hobby. Before I knew it, I was running a legit business. I had to create contracts, invest in better camera equipment, improve my skills, register my business with the state, and pay taxes!
My husband has fully supported my desire to be more serious with photography and videography. He surprises me with new gear for Christmas sometimes and never bats an eye at needing to tackle bedtime with our kids by himself while I’m shooting. He has been my foundation to stand on and shoulder to cry on. I couldn’t have created this business without him, encouraging family, amazing friends and my incredible clients. It’s been a little over 5 years and I am so grateful with how things are going.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel my journey up to this point has been unpredictable. I originally intended to work in broadcast journalism and wanted to cover news media for my church. After college, I kept applying for jobs with local news stations and nothing seemed to pan out. So I kept on doing photography and videography for fun. I never saw myself running my own business until I was already doing it! But my journey in photography and videography has been smooth. I have to credit God for that. I truly believe He has put specific people in my path to support me. So I’ll keep following this road until He guides me somewhere else.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the face behind the camera of Tiani Anglade Photo & Video. I specialize in wedding and family photography and videography. I am obsessed with fun, loud weddings with lively bridal parties and a killer dance floor. I have a passion for capturing people being people. I like to say that it’s my job to find the best in people and capture their real emotions. Whether you’re doing the worm on the dancefloor or crying with your dad during your daddy-daughter dance, I’m preserving those memories for you.
I believe what sets me apart may be the experience I give my clients. When I’m looking at someone through my camera lens, all I see is the good in them and I will call that out. I love hyping people up and helping them feel good about themselves. I really, truly believe that everyone can look wonderful in photos and everyone deserves a photo of themselves where they feel they look good.
If this were a job interview, I would also insert that I speak Spanish and can offer that to couples who would need services in both English and Spanish. That has definitely helped in the past!

What does success mean to you?
This is a tricky question. I could argue success in photography and videography is about having a fairly constant flow of bookings. Or maybe it’s when my clients book with me again and again (shoutout to my day 1 clients who have trusted me since the beginning as I grow and learn!). But, at the end of the day, I think it’s about delivering a quality photo gallery or video that immortalizes the importance of people’s lives. I want to give people something to look back on that makes them smile and feel good about themselves.
