Rising Stars: Meet Anam Cara Dixon of Moab UT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anam Cara Dixon.

Hi Anam Cara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always known I wanted to own my own small business. Growing up in the era of the “Girl Boss”, it feels almost like a right of passage as a young woman entering the world of entrepreneurship. I figured eventually the right idea would come to me, that I would have my “Eureka!” Moment and take the world by storm! But that’s not really how it all went down in my case. And, well, as it turns out, I’m much more of an Opportunist than an Innovator. This spring, my coworker decided to sell her traveling photo booth business after a year of burnout, the very same photo booth business I had been practically drooling over all this time.
So I, without much forethought, forked over every single penny from my bank account.
Now I own a traveling photo booth business and I’m having a blast!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Taking on the Moab Photo Booth Co. has been a whirlwind. With a year of events already booked, I quickly jumped into gear with the help of the previous owner, who essentially showed me how to set it up, turn it on, and told me I was on my own, good luck! I learned how to operate new programs, new technology, and how to navigate all the back end aspects of owning a business through blood, sweat and tears.
But the easiest part? That’s watching the photo booth bring life to every event, and how much fun people have with it. I’m not sure I can name a more rewarding feeling.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Realtor, but I specifically work in real estate marketing, specializing in digital/social media marketing, graphic design and copy writing.
The aspect of this I am most proud of is that I don’t hold a degree. My skills are entirely self-taught and I have worked very hard to get myself to where I am today in my industry and with the photo booth by taking every opportunity possible to grow professionally.

How do you define success?
My definition of success is making it possible to do what makes you feel the happiest every single day.
