Rising Stars: Meet Ashley Mills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Mills.

Ashley Mills

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started Lovely Lorraine’s Bakery 3 years ago when my youngest started Kindergarten. I have loved being a stay-at-home mom to my 3 daughters for the last 14 years. I wanted to still be there for my children but knew I would have some time to myself for the first time since becoming a mother. It was at this time that I also decided to start Culinary School at Salt Lake Community College to pursue my baking career.

Lovely Lorraine’s Bakery is a Cottage Bakery. A Cottage Bakery is a food establishment under the Utah Department of Agriculture that allows bakers to have home businesses. Your home gets inspected regularly by the Health Department and you have to follow State Food Establishment Rules & Regulations. I have a Utah Food Handlers Permit and am Servsafe Certified. My Business Management degree from Snow College has helped me immensely in starting this little bakery.

Lovely Lorraine’s Bakery features a different baked good each week that you preorder and pick up on Thursdays. It’s a wonderful way for me to do all of what I love…baking, business, being a mother and homemaker.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve been blessed with support friends & family who have supported me from the beginning. So many friends order treats each week and share my Instagram with friends.

My biggest struggle is balancing family, church, school, and the bakery. The hardest part for me was getting everything started! Getting my business license, ordering stickers & supplies, pricing out every recipe & ingredient, and having my amazingly talented friend design my logo.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am best known for my original Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe which has been featured in LDS Living Magazine and won first place at the Weber County Fair. I love sharing my original recipes, etiquette tips, and “Sharing All Things Lovely” on my Instagram LovelyLorraines.

I love teaching cooking and etiquette classes. I have worked at a local cooking school teaching date night cooking classes. I have taken etiquette classes from Emily Post & Myka Meiers and love giving back to the community by giving free etiquette classes to school and church groups.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
