Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubri Russell.
Hi Aubri, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It was never really a question as to what I was going to do for a career. I always knew it would be hair and makeup. I grew up on a dance team, I was exposed to hair & makeup at a young age and just slowly started doing it more and more in my free time. I’d spend hours on YouTube watching makeup tutorials. I moved from Utah to New Mexico, where I went to cosmetology and started working in a small barbershop shortly after, where my focus from wanting to do hair and makeup for film shifted to wanting to work behind the chair. I loved my coworkers and the environment they had created there. After covid quarantine, I started at a second, larger salon and loved it. After being there for a while, I found my way back to my hometown in Utah and found the huge need for bridal hair and makeup. Now I work full time behind the chair as well as doing what feels like a million weddings as more and more people find our little gem of a town!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not by any means! The beauty industry is cutthroat, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Salons were shut down what felt like every other week during 2020, and I thought I was going to have to find a different career path but somehow made it out of that!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Behind the chair, I offer mostly color services; blondes are absolutely my favorite! I’ve started doing more and more weddings which take up most of my time during spring and fall!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I think my definition of success changes every day. There’s waves of days that having my clients leave my chair is success. Weeks packed of weddings are success. Being excited to go to work is success. Clients turned into great friends is success. I don’t try to tunnel vision on “success.”
