Rising Stars: Meet Bill Louis of South Jordan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bill Louis

Bill, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a young Pacific Islander kid, school was very difficult for me because I was not interested in the curriculum, so I started with doodling in grade school to help keep me focused on the subject matter. Creating art help has helped me become focused on problem solving and creating various ways to get the answer I needed. I moved to the Bay Area, CA as a kid and became effectuated with graffiti art. I soon started painting graffiti with my friends around the city. I then moved back to Reno, NV and continued on the graffiti path. So Graffiti is how I was able to transition into painting Murals today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been very difficult to become the artist I am today. There really was no blueprint on how to become a artist. I pretty much started painting on my own. Learning different ideas and tricks from other artists. A lot of these things were underground as we did not have Social Media back when I first started. But As I came here to Utah I figured if I just produced more and more art, got involved in the Art scene some how that I would eventually get some notoriety for my work.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a full time Artist with a focus in Mural Art. I have painted many large scale murals around Utah as well as other States in the country. I am proud that I can utilize some of my kids in some of my work. As a Pacific Islander I feel representation is vital and an importance to our communities. I am a minority in Utah when it comes to Full-time Polynesian Artists. But I feel I have left my mark here in the Wasatch Valley and hope to inspire the younger generation of creatives.

What makes you happy?
What makes me Happy is helping my family and serving others. I am love to see my family members enjoying their time together and serving others in any way they can. I feel more fulfilled when I give back.
