Rising Stars: Meet Black_Pater Lofumbwa of Salt Lake City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jean-Pierre Lofumbwa

Jean-Pierre , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Jean-Pierre Lofumbwa, know as Black_pater. My people on social media call me « Le Prof », which means « The Professor » in English. I am Congolese and have started with social media since I was in my home country, which is the Democratic Republic of Congo. Everything started as a joke until I moved to the US in 2021 as an international student. With a lot more opportunities, I have managed to work with brands, people and even schools in the US and outside the US. I think my story deserves to be told regarding all the hardships I’ve gone through. Coming from an African country should not be an easy task, especially when you decide to move to Utah too. Social media has helped me learn and achieve things that I could never do before. I am glad to be selected. I hope I will have a chance to say more in person. Thank you!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Things were hard, especially when I got here. The culture shock was intense. Fortunately, I knew how to speak English already. However, I did not have any biological family member in Utah. I had to learn so many things. I have seen things in a new light. I have had obstacles that even made think that going back to my country was the best option. But I was wrong, I had to keep being strong. And I’m glad that I’ve made it so far.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a social media content creator. I work with brands, artists, schools and other businesses. I also speak 5 languages. This is why I am trying to get my professional translator certification in French-English. I also do dance, typically African trending and urban songs. I also teach languages in my free time and so on. People know me as « Le Prof Black_pater », which Professor Black_pater on my social media. This makes proud because most people do not consider me as a simple influencer, but they think that I am more of a public figure in the way that my opinion matters. Also, they can learn things from me such as news, life experiences or tips, etc. I also consider myself a Congolese cultural ambassador.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
One thing about is that I am a nerd, I like studying a lot even though I do not look like. When I graduated from high school in 2015, I was the best student in my field, which was « Latin-Philosophie » with 85% in the whole country, DRC. I deserved a scholarship to go study abroad, which I did not get because of political injustices of that time with the former regime. When the current President Felix Tshisekedi came in office, things got better and I finally managed to make it to the US to pursue my academic dreams. I was also helped by the Education General Inspector Mr. Odia. I won’t forget my family : Every single member of my biological family believes in my success. I will also include my high school classmates who have become more than friends to me. They all deserve credit. Fally Ipupa, an international Congolese artist, and Cristiano Ronaldo have inspired me with their success.
