Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Gagne
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We are a band consisting of 4 best friends (Brian, Aaron, Michael, and Jacob) who grew up together around Albany NY. Several of us knew each other literally since we were wee little lads thanks to all of our parents knowing each other as well. But back in around 2003 when we were all in the same middle school, we got really into music and each picked up instruments. We would play together quite often and eventually realized we should make it official and start a band. We called the band Along These Lights, leaned into the pop-punk vibes, and started writing music and playing shows around our area. Eventually we wrote a short 3-song EP called “Without a Date to the Prom” and released it on Myspace Music (hey, it was so hot at the time). In 2011, we experienced what we call “the Breaking of the Fellowship”; we became physically separated as we went on to college, and started families, and moved around. However, we never lost hope that ONE DAY we would be able to play music together again.
Fast forward to 2023. We were wiser (debatable), wider, and much less flexible than before, but we were finally all together again in Northern Utah. We decided that, like the great Rafiki once said, “it is time”. We started writing together again, but wanted to fulfill our dream of recording a full-length album together. Something that helped make this possible was Brian winning the BOOM Campaign from his company BrainStorm Inc., and so we put ourselves to work and released our album “To Be Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea” on January 1st, 2025.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our biggest obstacle was the fact that we were physically separated for so long. When we got back together though, we quickly found our groove and songs just started materializing and we clicked like we’d never been away.
Another struggle was the fact that we all have families, responsibilities, full-time jobs, and more that consume our daily life. So finding time to get together regularly to write, practice, and record was a huge challenge.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Along These Lights has always been primarily a way to express ourselves, and aspects that define us are things like camaraderie, celebrating good times, and the upbeat/fun side of pop-punk without forgetting the drama life throws at you. When we reunited, it wasn’t about playing old songs—it was about picking up where we left off, pushing our sound further, and proving to ourselves we could make something like this happen despite our busy lives with our newfound responsibilities. We would be happy if this somehow turned into a “business”, but in the meantime, we’re just in it for the passion in music we share. We will continue to do this whether we eventually sell out concerts or not!
