Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Matherly.
Hi Brooke, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Southern California, where I dreamed of working in the beauty world since kindergarten. As a teen, I made my dreams a reality by moving to Utah to attend Paul Mitchell hair school in Provo. After graduating in 2012, I was hired at Malstrom Salon, where I worked for nine years. It was an amazing work environment and really hard to leave- but I knew I always wanted to be my own boss. In 2021 I took the leap and started my own business: Lightbar Salon. I share a space at Image Studios near foothill village with Lauren Sorensen and have been loving every day of being a boss babe. 🙂
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think opening any business, there are bound to be some struggles. I’ve worked hard for 10 years to build a reliable clientele. Early on, there would be days of no clients, waiting for walk-ins, and working other jobs to pay the bills. During those slow times, I worked on what I wanted to specialize in and made every client that sat in my chair feel special.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a self-employed hairstylist and I specialize in creating a natural look for blondes or brunettes. I’m known for my colors being super blended and easy to maintain. Everyone has such busy lives so I’m proud that I can create such beautiful colors that don’t need to be maintained as often.

Through ups and downs, I’m proud of myself for continuing forward and striving to be the best hairstylist I can be, continuing my education and staying up to date on the current trends.
