Today, we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Quesada.
Hi Cassie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started by graduating from high school early due to Covid-19. At 17, I left my house and started my first year of college at BYU-I. As semesters passed, I realized BYU-I wasn’t for me. In the year I was in Idaho, I left to go back home four times because I couldn’t do it.
So, the 4th time I officially dropped out of BYU-I. I had no money and no place to stay, so I packed my Ford Escape and drove to Orem, Utah. Some of my family members have worked for a famous fast-food chain, and they helped me get a job there as well. So, I started work at In-n-Out Burger. After about a year, I started becoming an adult, paying my bills, and slowly getting a start in life. In July 2023, I decided I wanted to go back to school.
But not a typical 4-year college. I found out about a trade school for Estheticians called NIMA, the National Institute of Medical Aesthetics. They had a couple of different accelerated plans, and I chose full-time days so I could graduate in 8 months. So, in March of 2024, I became a licensed esthetician.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This journey was quite difficult for me. Due to the early start but delayed understanding of adulthood, I struggled with pretty severe episodes of depression.
The first stage of depression started during my second semester at BYU-I. My grades started slipping, and I found it hard to get up every day. As someone who was a triathlete my whole life, I’ve never experienced that type of feeling.
I went from being busy from 6:30 am to 5:30 at night, always smiling and laughing, to not being able to leave my room for days on end. This didn’t stop until I dropped out two semesters later.
When I moved to Orem, I started finding myself again and getting back into a healthy routine. I started to understand the ropes of adulthood and how to have a healthy mind.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Master Esthetician. I specialize in Chemical Peels and Laser Hair Removal. Something I am most proud of is my love for Chemical Peels and Micro-needling. I took an extra course to learn how to layer Chemical Peels on top of Micro-needling for optimal results. I also learned how to do a “Vampire Facial,” Which is micro-needling with your own plasma!
I had the most fun with this course; it opened up my interest in the medical side of esthetics. Something that sets me apart from others is my drive to do my best. I tend to have this need to do everything perfectly or to the best of my abilities. I pride myself on helping others look and feel their best.
Any big plans?
I became officially licensed on March 16th. As of right now I’m looking forward to getting my first job as a licensed Esthetician.
I’ve moved around in Utah a lot, and I’m currently in West Jordan but moving back to Orem in April. Something I would like to see in my future is working towards becoming a registered nurse so I can further my career in esthetics.
