Rising Stars: Meet Cedar Palmer of Telluride CO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cedar Palmer

Cedar, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Cedar and I started my journey in the filming and media world just making videos at the skatepark and ski mtn with my friends. I fell in love with editing ski videos and how you can convey a feeling through combining music with the style of rider and how it’s cut together. So naturally I wanted to study film in college where I graduated from university of Colorado Boulder in 2021. My last year in Boulder myself and the group of friends I had developed during my time there decided to produce a full feature length ski film titled “The Dean’s List”. The following fall we premiered this film at the fox theatre in boulder to a surprisingly packed sold out house and crazy energy around it that I wasn’t expecting because all we did was make a film about skiing but people loved the vibe it had. From then on I’ve made a couple other films and gotten opportunities to produce content for leading brands in the industry and travel all over the world capturing content.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road the action sports industry is fickle and tough to navigate but through some of my earliest connections I’ve began to eke out a living. Id say the tougher part of it is just the naturally gatekeeping vibe that a lot of skiers and fillers have, which I fully understand people don’t want to just give their tricks of the trade or locations or whatever it is out to randoms. My best friend growing up Lucas Foster became a professional World Cup/Olympic snowboarder and through him I have made connections with brands and individuals he works with that has led me into other avenues. Because of this tough industry to navigate myself and my partner on ‘The Dean’s List’ started a non profit organization alongside Lucas, helping provide opportunities to athletes and media opportunities within the sport for kids that aren’t as interested in competitions but still love the skiing and action sports lifestyles or cultures.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I feel like my best work is still yet to come, lately I’ve been making a lot of random content for athletes or brands social media channels but I’d say the work I’m most proud of is the projects I have done for Rossignol with professional skier Baker Boyd. Him and I have been to Argentina twice now to film short films, and both of them are much different but I am proud of the way the second one titled ‘viscoso’ captures the cultural aspect of skiing in the andes mountains in mid summer. Another thing that I am proud of is to have worked on the not yet released Red Bull project with Bobby Brown. Having the opportunity to work with one of the best skiers of all time and a person I looked up to my whole youth is just amazing and a dream come true.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
100%. Forst and foremost I’d have to shoutout my family for being so supportive of me chasing an unconventional job. and then Finn Bailis who is my partner in the deans list is basically everything except the production side he makes things happen so together we are a good team.
