Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne Peabody
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my photography business in 2020 after getting a camera as a gift for Christmas I mainly used it to take photos of my kids and eventually started taking photos of friends and family, one day one of my family members told me your getting really good with that camera why don’t you try to make some money of your own since at the time I was a stay at home mom of 1 and pregnant with my second child! So that’s what I did at first it was photos of friends and relatives still but eventually I started getting new clients that I didn’t know who they were! As my business grew so did my skills behind the camera when people started offering me more for my time I decided to raise my prices a little and make more money! I was able to provide food for my family and even help with some bills! I love being able to capture memories for other people and make new friends along the way! Pretty soon I was shooting for peoples weddings and I couldn’t believe it they wanted me to be there and capture their special day! Soon I started traveling to Utah for photos and even more northern Idaho I’ve even traveled to Mississippi for photos I’m very grateful for everything I have achieved in my small business and all the friends I’ve made along the way! In 2024 not long after having my 3rd child I got a divorce I was then a single mom of 3 living back at home because I couldn’t afford anything on my own, now I work a full time job at a gas station since it was the only thing hiring in my small town! But I’m still able to do photography on other days being a single mom of 3 and working 2 jobs is hard all while trying to save up money to move on to bigger and better things! My marriage was a very difficult time in my life due to my at the time husband being very controlling , mental and verbal abuse where very present from my ex husband going through custody and divorce was difficult especially not being able to afford a lawyer! I have always looked for the positive side in everything and I tell myself everything happens for a reason not long after my separation I met someone who loves me and my 3 children as his own someone who is kind and gentle hearted someone who doesn’t call me rude names or throws things at me and breaks and punches things when he’s upset! But learning to love myself after such a traumatic relationship and marriage is something I’m struggling with I have a fear of not doing enough for my new family I have severe depression and low self esteem these mental issues have caused me to not want to leave bed or go out and do anything anymore! But I push threw it and I get up and I fight everyday for my family! I put on a smile and I make sure everyone is happy and taken care of and seeing them smile and seeing the joy in there faces lets me know that I am doing an amazing job that I am strong and beautiful and kind hearted and I deserve this life I deserve my happiness back! When I take photos I capture happy memories for people I make people smile over photos but they aren’t just photos they are memories captured in time that they can look back on forever that they can look at and say do you remember when we had these taken! I leave a permanent impression in peoples lives and that brings me so much joy not only do I take photos to support my family I take photos to bring joy to others to bring memories for years and years to come they will always be able to look at the photos and remember such a happy day the laughter the jokes the silly poses! Everybody deserves a happy memory and that’s what photography means to me the most it’s not just my career choice! Seeing peoples happiness and joy brings me happiness and joy!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My career in photography started out smooth I had people so excited for me to take their photos and capture their memories! Over the years my small town has gained a lot of new and upcoming photographers which had slowed my career down tremendously! Although I am very happy for all the new photographers building their career and experiencing the joy it bring to everyone capturing memories! It makes me very sad that I’m not able to capture as many memories anymore! So I started venturing outside of my town and that helped a lot taking photos for new people in new locations building my portfolio and skills as a photographer!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a photographer in a small town called Malad Idaho! I’m 24 years old and a mother of 3 amazing children! I specialize in outdoor sessions of any kind going from senior photos to weddings! I’m known for my outgoing personality and my way of making anyone smile even if they hate their picture taken and they were forced to be there! I’m most proud of the growth I have made in myself! I use to be very shy I didn’t speak to anyone I never put myself front and center of anything! But I’ve grown in my career and now I’m the most outgoing photographer you will ever meet I always have a smile on my face! I think the thing that sets me apart from others is I’m not only there to make money ! I’m there to have a good time and to capture memories for people I don’t charge a lot of money especially if someone asks me how many photos will you take of my family for a certain price and I tell them as many as we take in any amount of time! I want everyone to be able to have those memories and of that means I only make $25 for a photoshoot I’m okay with that because I just made a happy memory for a family or a mom who’s been waiting to get family pictures in but they couldn’t afford to pay more than $25! I want everyone to have memories and I love being able to give them those memories
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I was lucky to get a camera as a gift because it started something I never saw coming! It didn’t just become a buisness for me it became a way of creating happiness for not only myself but others as well!
