Today we’d like to introduce you to David Stubbs. Them and their team share their story with us below:
In 2009, David Stubbs, owner, and founder of Stubbs Dental graduated with his D.D.S. from The University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. Not more than 15 minutes later he was sworn into the U.S. Navy, where he continued his dental training while serving his country. After three years of hard work and dedication, he moved to Utah to begin his dental career outside of the US Navy. In 2014, the first Stubbs Dental office opened in Bountiful, Utah and the world was introduced to the Stubbs Dental difference: Truly customer-focused dentistry that prioritizes the patient’s experience and comfort. Within six months, Stubbs Dental had already provided treatment to over 230 patients in Utah.
In 2015, Dr. David Stubbs began the monthly community donation program where Stubbs Dental gives a portion of all new patient proceeds to a member or organization in the local community. Though the first donation started at a humble $400, we quickly grew and were able to multiply that sum to something far greater each and every month. During this year we also provided treatment to over 650 new patients.
In 2016, Stubbs Dental shifted its focus to specialize in the All-on-4® — a revolutionary dental procedure that provides a trusted solution for replacing all of your teeth. Stubbs Dental also began providing sedation options to our patients, allowing those with moderate to severe dental anxiety to get the treatment they deserve without the accompanying nerves.
From 2017 through 2018, Stubbs Dental underwent significant expansion, opening their second location in Layton, UT, as well as bringing on three more experienced and world-class dentists: Dr. James Willardsen, Dr. Shane Phillips, and Dr. Kris Kuchenmeister. Stubbs Dental was able to serve nearly 2500 patients from 2017-2018, breaking their old records and near doubling 2015’s final patient count.
From 2019-2020, Stubbs Dental brought on 2 new doctors, Dr. Riley Robinson and Dr. Daniel Bostock. Additionally, Stubbs Dental purchased a dental lab (to control quality and bring production in-house), opened a new office in Murray, UT, and began construction on their fourth office located in Lehi, UT. In 2020, they were able to provide treatment to over 2,500 new patients, and their monthly donation total began to average $4,000.
In 2021, we successfully opened our new Lehi office and brought on the talented and hilarious Dr. Dennis Blume to oversee it. We have also donated over $100,000 in medical treatment and nearly $43,000 in monthly donations.
As 2022 draws near, Dr. Stubbs and Stubbs Dental are poised to keep growing, keep giving back, and make each year better than the last! We have grown from one tiny office serving 500 people a year, to a household name serving nearly 3000 patients and donating tenfold what we could in our original 2015 program. We’re tremendously excited for what the future will bring and look forward to many years of serving the excellent community of Utah!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In January of 2021, Stubbs Dental was struck with tragedy as our lead oral surgeon and good friend Dr. Daniel Bostock was killed in a head-on collision. Dr. Bostock’s untimely passing had a significant effect on the business and the team members from all locations. During this time, our patients were incredibly understanding of our situation and allowed us time to get back on our feet and mourn the loss of an incredible and dedicated man.
Dr. Bostock’s best friend and sweetheart, Alise Payne, was also in the car when it was struck. Though she did survive, she was left with many broken bones and required over 40 hours of surgery and months of rehabilitation. Stubbs Dental was able to donate $4,350 to help Alise cover expenses during this time.
Running a business you experience more obstacles and challenges than anyone could possibly imagine, but our resilient team and wonderful leadership have the ability to guide us through the toughest times. Because of this, we know we’ll always land back on our feet and be prepared to provide caring and professional service to our amazing patients.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Though we’d like to attribute our success exclusively to our hard work, dedication, and perseverance, we know we’ve had a few lucky breaks along our way.
The first of these events was when I crossed paths with the leader of our healthcare and investment team, Serena Wixom. Serena has been in the dental industry since 1978 and has extensive experience in all aspects of dentistry management. Her years of consulting, public speaking, and expertise in start-ups, business development, insurance, coding and billing, systems implementation, and leadership and team building have been critical to our success. We could certainly never have gotten to where we are now without the wonderful Serena Wixom..
The second of these events was bringing on Dr. James Willardsen. It was a mere circumstance that brought him and his years of experience to Stubbs Dental. Regardless, his presence has had an incredible impact throughout our company. that he decided to bring his years of experience and skills to Stubbs Dental, but his presence has had an incredible impact throughout our company. Voted by his peers to be the top dentist in Las Vegas, his wealth of knowledge and excellent judgement has continually pushed our company and our practices forward allowing us to grow faster and go further than we thought was possible!
Though it was the hard work and dedication of many individuals who have brought us to this point, it would be hard to imagine us here today without the help of these two incredibly influential figures. We are truly lucky to have them, as well as the many other amazing, talented, and positive people on our team.
