Rising Stars: Meet Douglas Chavez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Douglas Chavez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started drawing since I was a young child. I would draw animations or people but how I got into tattooing was when I dropped out of MA school and followed my dreams to become an artist. I dropped out and got an apprenticeship and later got offered a position as a professional tattoo artist at Skin It Tattoos.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Heck no! I had to get it out of the mud like they say, from hardships with friends, families, and relationships I have sacrificed a lot of my time for this profession. I battled with addiction for a while but I have been clean and sober for over 5 years and I don’t regret a single thing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a tattoo artist here at The Collective Studio in Logan, Utah. I would like to say that what separates me from other artists would be my motivation and perseverance. I specialize in black and grey and realism mixed with my own style and blackwork. My proudest accomplishment right now would be the tattoo shop and making sure it succeeds.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is defined by your results. So, if you have no results to be proud of then you have to get back to the drawing board and work harder, train harder, and constantly evolve in order to succeed.
