Hi Gabriela, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Returning to the ice after nearly two decades, I was thrilled to lace up my new skates. I started looking for soakers to protect my blades and make them last. As I looked, I couldn’t really find what I was looking for. As a creator, this triggered my curiosity and I started to investigate how I could make my own. After a handful of attempts, I finally landed on my soakers. I started taking my new soakers to the rink where everyone would ask me where I purchased them and how they could get some of their own. Shortly after, I went to my local pro shop where the owner also wanted to get their hands on an order of my soakers to try to sell them. They sold quickly!
All of this has inspired me to improve my soakers and to start Monarch Ice.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any journey worth taking, there have been challenges along the way. Learning to master the serger machine was a significant step – I invested time and patience into developing these skills to ensure the highest quality for my soakers. There’s been plenty of experimenting with different materials to find the perfect combination.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create handmade soakers for figure skaters, focusing on quality and attention to detail. Each pair is crafted with care, protecting blades while reflecting the skater’s personality.
I’m proud to see my soakers at local rinks and shipped to skaters across the world. Being part of athletes journey both locally and internationally is truly rewarding.
What sets me apart is the personal touch in every pair. I pour my heart into each stitch, treating every order as if for a close friend. I believe this dedication and care distinguishes my work.
