Rising Stars: Meet Ian Mciver of Salt Lake City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Mciver

Hi Ian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started playing Music professionally in 2000.
The first wedding I was ever hired to play happen to be on September 11, 2001, Just a little bit pressure to lighten the mood there!
Since then, I have played many, And I always look upon it as a privilege and a pleasure to add to a couple’s special day.

Here in Utah, I play private events, restaurants, bars, and concerts. In 2023 I performed almost 300 live shows, And on track to break that number in 2024.

I just enjoy sharing music with the world and offering music to enhance and color events and experiences.

Greatest job ever.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been plenty of challenges, one that I think is really unique, is that most people don’t hire live musicians on regular basis, they have a hard time articulating what they want, and sometimes they don’t even know what they are looking for.

I’ve worked very hard to develop an ear for the client’s needs & the communication skills along with drawing on a breadth of professional experience to be able to draw that out so that I can craft a musical experience that exceeds the expectations of my client & their guests.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have a smoky deep voice.
Frank Sinatra meets Ray Charles.

I pay this with acoustic guitar and work on simple but beautiful arrangements that complement any special experience without being to him interruptive.

My focus is 100% on enhancement, not on being the center of attention. I’m there to make what’s already happening even better and I stay Laser focused on that.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I was a professional river guide for 18 years. So I have essentially spent my adult life in career as an entertainer in one form or another.

I’ve served as an officiant twice.

I also have a nasty jumpshot.
