Rising Stars: Meet Iron Prophecy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iron Prophecy. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Iron Prophecy

Iron Prophecy was formed through the musician community on Craigslist. Lead singer, Rene Sandoval, and drummer, Eric Proctor, linked up through a post Eric made looking to start a reggae band after he and his wife/keyboard player, Angelica Proctor, moved from Denver to Portland. Through the same ad, Eric met another guitarist who was working with bassist, Chad Shaver, at the time.

After a few rehearsals with other musicians, Eric, Angelica, Rene, and Chad came together to form the “Core Four”. Iron Prophecy’s first show was in February 2020, abruptly followed by the pandemic shutting down the momentum they were building. Iron Prophecy returned to the stage in February 2022 and eventually added horn players, James Keirnan and Ed Propst, to the mix. The band also brings in other musicians from the community to create an even bigger and more dynamic sound for larger shows.

Since getting back on stage, the Iron Prophecy has created a buzz in the scene, blending their unique reggae sound with high-energy performances. They have had the honor of opening for national and international acts including UB40, Alborosie, Through the Roots, and many others. They are releasing their latest single, Stealin’ Love, this August and hitting the road for a Fall Tour to Colorado, Utah, and Idaho.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The pandemic took the wind out of the band’s sails. During that time, Angelica and Eric also had a baby, which limited the time devoted to the project.

The band has become a family and because everyone is on the same page with spreading the message of love and unity through reggae music, even when times get tough, each member steps up in their way to keep the drive alive.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Iron Prophecy is not a typical reggae band. Each song brings a different vibe and feel while blending in elements of traditional roots reggae music.

Whether it’s Rene singing a song in Spanish or Angelica taking the lead, singing in Portuguese and dancing center stage, each song during a show has its own energy that takes the listener on a roller coaster-like ride of fast-paced dancehall style hits, to soulful ballads, to heavy bass and dub sounds.

One of the biggest honors the band has had to date is opening for, and meeting, UK-based legends UB40. The band is also extremely proud of their newest single coming out in August, Stealin’ Love. The song was produced by star reggae producer, E.N Young and truly captures the essence of Iron Prophecy’s musical style.

What are your plans for the future?
The band is looking forward to hitting the road this September and showcasing their sound to audiences in new areas.

This winter, they will be working on a full-length album and building new tour dates for 2024 to continue carrying the momentum and positivity forward.
