Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenasie Earl
Hi Jenasie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I’m Jenasie, the owner of Ms Vicious Design. I’m a Professional Thrifter, vintage reseller, interior decorator, DIY’er, and I share everything I do on social media as a content creator. I like to show others they can have a beautiful home on a budget using secondhand and some DIY!
I started sharing on Instagram to sell vintage pieces. I never expected it would lead to sharing my home on the internet to hundreds of thousands of people to inspire them to thrift, diy, and create a home on a budget.
When we bought our first house in 2010 it was ROUGH. Like cockroaches, holes, missing carpet… we had to gut and remodel on a verrrry small budget. Once it was done there was essentially no money left for furniture or decor. So I started thrifting and going to estate sales. I found so many AMAZING pieces for dirt cheap. As I started decorating my home people started asking to buy pieces from me. Which then lead to me sharing online. Once I started sharing how I used the thrifted pieces in my home I knew I found my calling. So many people thrift, but they don’t know what to do with it when they get home. Or they don’t know the best way to clean a wood piece of furniture they found. I shifted my instagram from just reselling vintage to show others how to actually use these pieces in their home. I share ways to clean, restore, and update the cool thrift store treasures!
I also share a ton of DIY projects and how much the power of paint can do for a space!
I really want others to know they can have a beautiful space without spending a ton of money. Your home is your sanctuary, your safe space, and it’s so important to have that space reflect who you are and the things you love!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh there’s always ups and downs in entrepreneurship. Having most of my business run on social media platforms it’s very hard to keep up with the best way to utilize each one. It’s changing and evolving pretty much every day. As a creative, it’s so hard to keep up with all the tech stuff when I just want to focus on the design and the thrifting. The fun part. Ha ha ha
It’s also very challenging to show up and share myself online every day. There are days I have personal struggles that I’m not feeling up to sharing with my online community and finding ways to still show up is hard. There’s also a lot of mean comments on projects I’ve done every day. Rising above that and not letting it get to me can be very challenging. I know those comments are just a drop in the bucket though.
The biggest challenge is that working for yourself you have no start and stop point unless you make one. It’s so easy to work or be online all day long and not take breaks. Learning a good work life balance is by far the hardest part for me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I said this initially, but I am a Professional Thrifter, content creator, interior decorator, vintage reseller, and DIY’er. I specialize in vintage and secondhand interior design and decor. I am known for taking boring spaces and make them super unique on a tiny budget. I am so proud of being able to completely furnish every space using second hand finds from thrift stores, estate sales, and Facebook Marketplace! I am known for some of my more epic vintage finds.
I am different from a lot of other interior IG accounts because I use COLOR! People are so afraid to use color on their walls and in their homes. I share a very unique and eclectic design style.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
