Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Hawkins.
Jennifer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started when I inherited my grandfather’s bedroom furniture after he passed away. I was very grateful, but the furniture was a bit old and dinged up, and it just didn’t work in my home. I offered it to a person that I knew that painted furniture. She strongly suggested that I let her paint it for me, but as a Do-It-Yourself kind of girl, I was inspired to take on the task myself. After doing a bit of research, I discovered chalk paint, and the rest is literally history. Over the years the shop has evolved into an eclectic mix of all the things I love. Not only painting furniture, but reducing my carbon footprint and reducing waste with the use of eco-friendly products, as well as a back-to-basics ideology of cooking, baking, recycling and repurposing wherever I can. I also love to support other small and local businesses by offering their wares in my shop.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A rollercoaster! But it’s all about the ride! The pandemic was not kind, and it’s been tricky ever since. I do my best to pivot and bring in gifts and items that attracts my market while staying true to myself.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
